After the longest wait in history. My Sp404 is suppose to be in tomorrow. But thats what they said 2 weeks ago. Anyway. I have been reading stuff about updating the OS of the 404.

Should I do this as soon as I get it? How important is it. What are the improvements?

If you get a new 404, it should have the newest OS. But companies are rarely logical so if it doesn't have the newest OS then I'd put it on since new OS's always have some sort of minor improvements. As far as what they are you can see on the Roland site under the 404 section. It's not really needed but I think it has some sort of directory improvement for importing .wav data.

the best improvement i found in the OS updates is the ability to select MFX 13-24 by hitting a pad (previously only 1-12 could be chosen this way, the rest you had to unreliably twist Ctrl 3 to choose)

Oh cool, that means I have the 'new' one. It even says in the manual how to select 13-24 with the pads.

Does anybody actually read their manuals?. No wonder there are so many obvious ass questions being asked. P.S. I'm definitely not refering to you Drewzle.

you're right, it's there in mine too. i think perhaps the 404 shipped without this function, and it got 'fixed' in an OS update
