Here's the main sample: "it's a shame" by grandmaster flash and the furious five. i tried to upload the track from my own record but soundcloud wouldn't let me so here's the same song on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKftKWTvl7s
this battle may need to be extended. i think people might be overwhelmed with the battles goin on right now, and it may be confusing having this overlap with the regular battles. i don't know, is it just me? it seems like a busy time of year for people too.

Yeah... unfortunately, sampling a sample-based hip hop track goes against my ethics. Think you might run into a lot of people sitting this one out. Now if it were a matter of sampling the original track, I'd be down... think it's the Spinners right?
i googled the guitar riff, i guess it's from "mt. airy groove" by pieces of a dream. i just thought people might be stoked to hear the song. but to each their own.
i see this battle is kinda fading like the sunset, i didn't really have time to come up with a track either. but much thanks to those who did, and will, submit tracks. peace.

Just curious as to how you googled the guitar riff? I've never heard of that.
The main portion of the track is from Pieces of a Dream, but I'm pretty sure the guitar (and title of the song) is from the Spinners track... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5VaRSEvq8U
Yeah I thought it was odd to have a sampled version of other songs as the sample but I figured what the hell and took a shot. Count is right it is the spinners who did the original "its a shame" and the Mt. Airy groove "pieces of a dream" is where the drums are from, not trying to sound all high and mighty I just have them on vinyl.
yup, you guys are right, i'm sorry. i haven't heard the spinners track. i figured that with people's sampling prowess it didn't really matter too much what the song was. most people here could turn any little part of any song into something cool. but i do apologize for my ignorance in sampling knowledge. rock on!
I enjoyed the song mellow. I tried messing with those drums but I just muddied them up. So I made a little beat using other drums, first time using quantize, pretty happy with the results. I did pull a little something from "It's a shame" messing around. I messed with that spinner's guitar for awhile and now this shit will not get outta my head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoNpUc0xE5Y
