cool ill try that, instead of filtering the whole track this time I just scanned thru the wave and found the s's and manually de essed each one, I dont use a popper stopper so I scan thru and take all the ticks out too. like P ticks and C ticks B pops .

Yeah, it's best to use a pop filter if you can, even a stocking (panty hose) works pretty well, stretched around a coat hangar!

And, depending on the phrasing, experiment with using z instead of s..like "ztop, hammer time" It cuts down on the air going into the mic, and you still get the s sound...takes a bit of practice though, and feels weird.

I have heard that some recordings of powerful rock screamers, for example, are done at very low volumes, and then fucked with in the mix to make them sound like authentic screaming...not sure where I heard that? Maybe it was Linkin Park..

Anyway, carry on.

crazy, you saying dude from linkin park isnt really screaming that shit?i dont know about that..but i did have a metal singer tell me once theres two types of screaming techniques when recording,i forget the technical terms-but ones getting real close to the mic and i guess kinda growling more than screaming...the seconds just stepping back and screaming your ass off like dave grohl. btw glue-its not like pop filters are expensive or anything man, you're putting yourself thru way too much work, lol.

suuuuure you did. :D

plus one on changing s's to z's, p's to f's, etc. it really helps.

another thing to try is to spit / sing / talk across the mic, rather than straight into it. so, work out about a 45 degree angle and then say yr shit across the ball of the 58 or whatever, rather than straight down into it like its a slurpee or some shit. that really helps.

i think the trick w/ the mic is to consider it another instrument, you know? like move yr head away from it during loud stuff, etc., like AD says there. you can finesse that shit.

and for the love of god, would you just buy some damned pantyhose?

It sounds like you've got things under control, but I'd second the advice of everyone who said to purposely distort your Ss to sound like Zs. This does the trick for most people, but it can be tricky as hell at first.

Probably the most common mistake (not saying this is you) is to use a cheap mic and record straight into it instead of across.

As far as editing vox goes I use the Waves ren de esser.
