Hey all,
I just got the 404sx a few days ago. Already I feel like I'm getting a pretty good grip on it, but there are a couple things I haven't figured out.

Here's my first hypothetical:
1.Say I'm looping a track on patch 1, and have it on hold with no effects. Then I start a second loop on patch 2 and decide to add an effect, let's say delay so both samples are playing. I then realize that I want to add a different effect to patch 1, like reverb. Is there a way to switch back and add a different effect to a currently playing patch, without having to hit the button, thus stopping the loop for a second?

And a related second hypothetical:

2. If I have a loop playing on patch 1 with, say, reverb, and I know I'm going to start the loop on patch 2 but I know that one needs to have something else, like ring mod added to it, is there a way to pre-load the effect so when I hit patch 2 the sample comes on with the effect all ready?

Thanks for any help! I'm loving it so far, but these are two hangups that I'm trying to figure out how to work around. Thanks again!

I recommend that you resample all of your sounds with different fx, then switch between them. if you know that you want to throw the ring mod on, say, the third snare in the loop, it's be beneficial to resample from that point on onto another pad. i use an og 404, but i'm pretty sure you can't run 2 effects simultaneously on the sx (unless you resample them one by one).

fortunately, the 404 will remember your fx settings as long as you leave the machine on, which is nice, so if you go back and use ring mod for example again, it will be set to how you last had it.

Oh, no kidding! Thanks for that. I could swear I ran two different effects at the same time, one on each patch, but I could totally be mistaken. I know you can't run two on the same patch at the same time, but I really thought I'd done it the other way... That would be a major bummer.

The thing is, I really want it for improvisation, so that's why there are moments where I'm like "this loop could really use some flange right now!" while three other patches are all doing separate things. Thanks for the quick reply!

Wow, as an update, you're totally right. I just tried running two patches with very distinct effects on each, and when I hit the second effect it completely canceled out the first one. Good call. Bummer, though.

Okay, so I guess that answers my second question too. However, the second half of that first question still stands:

Is there a way to reselect a patch that's already playing without having to turn it off first? Like, say two patches are playing and I want to go back and change the BPM of that first patch?

Thanks again for the help!

by holding remain down, you can see what pad(s) is/are selected, so you can select multiple pads at once, and as they are selected they will have the effect on em, but that doesn't mean they will start playing, only once you let go of remain and smash the pad will it play, but if you actually play a pad that is not one you have selected, then choose an effect, it will put the effect on that single pad only and you'll lose your remain group you had picked out, you really just gotta play with it for a while and get the hang of workin that remain button down, it can get a little confusing, but after some practice you'll get all the little subtleties of how it works down, also, if you hold remain and hit an effect as opposed to a pad, it will select every pad for the effect, but once everything is selected like that, you can't take single pads off of remain now, you have to lose everything and start again with a single pad selection, which always pissed me off when i wanted a ton of stuff selected except one thing, you really have to go through and select everything except that one
