I was wondering how I can add my synths I made on ableton to a loop on sp404... correct me if i'm wrong, but It won't let me record from line-in to add to a pattern, I can only record as a sample, which I don't want to because I can't hear the other sounds I'm working this. The only thing I can think of is to resample the pattern and play the synths over using resample but I know the SP404 can't do that... The only other solution would be to export the pattern to a DAW then sample that. Is it really that difficult to put some of my synth lines onto a loop I recorded on the SP??

i think i know what you mean... i would record a minute or so loop of your sp-pattern out to the DAW, then play it back on headphones or something while simultaneously sampling your snyth performance into the sp, with the output of the sp into monitors, so you can keep time without the sp picking up the other stuff. then just play it back and it'll be in time. it sounds like alot of pointless work, but it's quick and easy.

wait up, now i'm confused... how can I sample the synth performance onto the SP playing through monitors while playing along with the loop playing through headphones in the same DAW at the same time?

OH wait I think I get it... You record the synth performance while the loop is playing on the DAW, then just sample only the synth after its been recorded... aiiitteeeee

the two signals would be apart from each other-- the sp would only be sampling what was coming from your synth, and the loop you are keeping in time with would be playing from a different source altogether, so the sp wouldn't pick up everything, just the snyth sounds, but they would still be compatible(in time when triggered simultaneouly). When i do this, i put earbud-type phones inside of my nice ones, and put them both on my ears at the same time so i can hear both sources...

for using synths on my 404sx i usually just sample the synth notes directly to the pads and then play them that way.

Another way ive used synths on 404 beats is to export the beat to ableton, and record the synth line while sampling the master audio back into the SP.

if your going to use ableton you might as well just export the beat to ableton. you can just make an audio track and set the in for whatever your sampler is sending out to. also if its midi synced with ableton, that makes recording your sp so much easier in real time.
