So... just moved into my new (and more "beat making compatible" w00t) apartment today and I was wondering this: If I leave the SP-404 on all night will it run my bill up drastically? :p Dumb question I know lol. I'm guessing it would, but maybe I'm wrong? I have no knowledge on these kinds of things haha

Why? Well, I like to stream japanese TV / radio from my laptop and into the 404, I think it's much easier to record something cool that might come up. Also it's much easier to control volume via the knobs and the option to run the audio through the compressor can come in very handy (quiet shows... loud commercials... yeah xD)

Just wondering though. If any one else does this let me know! BTW I consider a high bill as $50 (U.S. dollars).

I have never looked at my bill and tried to figure out the delta between having the 404 on all the time, and not having it on all the time. Seems like it would be fucking difficult as hell to figure that out?

But, mine is always on, and it stays in sleep mode most of the time, so it's always ready for action, and I run my laptop audio into it, so that I can capture anything, anytime.

I doubt it uses $50 worth of electricity in a year!

a 404 probably uses about 200-300mA, and runs at 9V.

so in watts, that's.. about 3 watts, vaguely..

now given lightbulbs are 40/60/etc, you get an idea.

there is a bit of power use in the conversion from 110/240v -> 9, but even if you doubled the wattage, it's still a tiny fraction of leaving a lightbulb on

the original 404 definitely doesn't have any sleep mode.. what does the SX do if you leave it for a while?

It basically shuts off the lights, including the glowing beat light in the LCD display. There are three blinking lights to let you know it is still actually on. And it wakes up instantly. I can play a sample regardless of the mode, and it plays instantly. It's designed to preserve the battery if you're not plugged in.
