are there any solutions where i can bring up the whole volume without hurting the peaking? everything's pretty well balanced It's just it's too quiet.

think u gotta resample it and make it louder with like comp or eq. actually eq'ing it is good way to get two birds with one stone here, just boost mids and highs til it sounds good (unless it's a bass track, then hype that low) and that should fix your level. otherwise might have to rerecord it.

yeah, generally it will be a particular frequency band that is alot louder than all the others - this is especially hard to spot when it is sub-sub-audio levels (so low subs can't detect it)..often there will be wayyy too much sub-sub in a track if you try and make it bassy

if you have software, use a spectrum analyzer to find any outstanding peaks then an eq to reduce

ok i'm dumb i need to start reading entire post. missed "well-balanced".

so, if a) sample is well-balanced, b) you don't wanna rerecord it, and c) you don't have a means of normalizing it (DAW, etc.), then it kinda depends what you're willing to do to this poor sample. if you don't mind turning it into a filter-fest, then slap the isolator on it. if you don't mind gettin' it dirty, slap some comp on it. if all else fails and you're outta idea, turn all the other samples down and normalize entire track after mixing it down.

the drive on the filter works great for boosting really low samples, and fills them in real nice, but its way to easy to go overboard, cause its meant to be more nasty than nice.

Yeah there arent alot of options working just inside teh SP itself..

Althogh dont discount altering the sample - you can get pretty heavy with the eq and once you throw it back in the mix the sample will still show up more than perhaps you expect.. of course its all about balance..

he said it is pretty well balanced, so there is a good chance he this particular track can be boosted, you will be able to bring it up any where for 1 to 6 db and use a limiter at or around .05 to .09 db. this will ensure no clipping while giving your wave "t3h Ph@Ts0uNd" Im pretty shure the loudness war is well over, people must have came to their sences and realized 90000 trillion decibals of white noise blaring doesnt sound as good as the classic recording and mastering techniques, so keep your levels cool and your dynamics will brighten up a shit load when you master your track with eq compression and or hard limiting .

you can also use normalise and usually anywhere from 77 to 88 % will boost your sound up nice without destroying your dynamics, I tend to shy away from normalizing as it can bring out harsh aspects of the wav, but it is usufull as hell.

you could also run a dynamic master compressor over the whole track for mastering, dont over do it, unless thats what you like, the good thing about multi band compressors is, it gives you full compression over usually 3 bands low mid and high, so you can fatten the whole thing up in one go. usually a bit of eq and maaaybe a tiny bit of reverb to sizzle in the highs. never to much. reverb can kill your song.

the 404 isolator can be used as a multiand compressor and limitor,

you will have to resample with vinyl sim, and then turn your limiter on,

CANCEL+MFX .

Now that your limiter is on, switch to isolator, and boost the frequencies you want or re sample with automation. now if it is still to low boost it with your computer.

just to clarify [cancel]+[mfx] isn't exactly a traditional limiter. it's putting the sp into 'effect limit mode' where:
"the depth of the effect will be limited to prevent unintentionally loud sounds or oscillation. You may find this function convenient in high-volume situations, such as in a club or live performance." (from manual)

yeah it is pretty good for live and in the club, I always run the limiter over my entire set, it bugs the hell out of the sound man because it causes the meters to barely register while pumping out tons of fat sound, and lofi sounds so good live and in the club it makes you see magic disco ball sparkles.

And the representetives agent for mr dipshit leshitski would like to clarify he does not hate on mad reverb as it is the usefull effect for creating good soundscapes. it is inventing new waves.

you can also boost the overall output volume on the sp up to 12 db, that should be loud enough for anything... cancel+knob 3 i think 8)

so you could record into the 404 and back out with the 'decibels' up, no eq changes, just flat

WARNING: PARTIAL THREAD DERAIL
wow, i was giving lame 303 advice for the apparently far superior 404.
should i just sell my 303 and get a 404?

you must realize that the 303 is far superior in some areas, like resampling with mic, and way better sound quality with lofi and hifi is even clean, 303 has superior sound quality, 404 is just an upgraded toy with a really bad sound you learn to love.
