huge glitch!!

Post by form »

yes i'm a forum noob

just upgraded from the 303 to the 404, and there's something really wack goin on. When I play back any pattern, the sample patterns out of the box or my own, after 10-15mins the unit crashes, buttons remain lit but pressing them does nothing and it outputs a horrible 'whhhhhrrrrrrrrrrr' tone. This is without effects or overloading the unit, infact once I've started the pattern I'm not even touching it (just scratching along with it).

the unit is new, ex display, barely used. I'm using a 1gig CF card, but it doesn't effect the glitch whether it's in or out. I plan on deleting everything off the unit for a fresh start.. unless anyone has any advice on what's going on.

any help?!

that's bad news man

i recommend uploading the latest OS onto the card and updating the 404 (check Roland's website for the download)

hopefully that will fix it. if not, i guess you'll have to send it away to be serviced.

ouch! i'll update the OS now and see how we go.

thanks mate.

edit: upgraded to 1.04 - some problem with roland's ftp wouldn't let me access 1.05 and the readme - but i initialized and updated the OS and just had a jam for 20mins without a hitch. i guess the solution is the obvious conclusion, but thanks for the guidance so i got it going quicker! peace

hope it's properly working now! If not you should return it and get a new one.

Where did you get it?

seems to be alright, liking the improvements to the OS (namely the pads lighting up and letting you choose them when holding MFX).

found it on ebay, was clearance stock from a shop - picked it up for AU$350. A replacement wouldn't be possible as it's the last one.
i may have actually caused the fault attempting to upgrade the OS when I first got it and not paying enough attention to what i was doing (cooking dinner at the time or something), as it was buggy after then when playing sequences and one recording had an odd tremelo/pan effect when played back but there were no effects added to it and the sample didn't save.

lets hope that's all in the past now.
