How do you get people to listen to your stuff w/out spamming

Normally when i make stuff ill just post it on the 4-5 appropriate music forums i visit.

I used to take a listen to almost everything that I received as a comments or messages on Myspace or any other social network... nowadays with the BIG amount of people thinking they are good and flooding you with lots of messages almost daily I consider everything just spam... If I want to listen something is something that I found by myself...

I've been debating this myself lately. I want to put an EP out soon and I was wondering if I'd get better exposure by just internet hustling and posting it up everywhere I go or joining up with a small netlabel, the benefit of the latter being that those guys usually have some links to at least a few blogs out there.

Also the obvious answer is to make a banger then fame and fortune will instantly follow, right?

A bunch of people go on SC, comment on everything and follow shit tons of people. I know a few dudes who got serious followings, especially on sc, from just that.

Granted this was 5ish years ago so not as relevant anymore, but I found the best way was putting physical copies of my music into peoples CARS.. cars still mostly have cd players, people have time to chill while theyre driving..

for added impact hide all their other CDs so they have no choice!

yeah internet is cool but really no one cares unless u exist in the physical. think of the cats u listen to outside of the forums...you find 98% are putting out physical releases diy or label, no matter the genre. you just gotta keep grinding. like tracks on soundcloud are cool, but i'm gonna hold my limited release clear vinyl from mount eerie that i bought at a basement show from the band above all that.
