A lot of artist get their tracks mastered and that makes a big difference in the sound.

What characteristics are you referring to in his samples exactly? They've got a lot of atmosphere and I chalk that up to reverb and good sample sources.

been listening to a lot of teebs lately myself, and i was struck that he samples a LOT from psychedelia records. swirly keyboards and such.

I think he uses reason, its really easy to get phat pumping bounce using the mastering presets and scream distortions. He might be using Live with Komplete too, and maschine those seem like favorites. Compression/limiting on the master and parallel compression and also side chaining are key to that sound.

Had to dig this thread out, cause I stumbled over an interview with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7Y5B-WGSe4. In between he drops a few words about the SP and using Fruity Loops and stuff.

I hope for a new release of his soon.

In some tracks (like Why like this?) I think he use analog synths too, I don't think his production is entirely sample-based or built on fruity loops.

he probably uses what ever is available to him at that moment. in the sonar interview he says he borrows a bunch of stuff, which makes since cuz it seems like he mentions a different software in almost every other interview.
some say he plum crazy, amazed at how he still get paid but dumb lazy...

Don't forget that he mentions bouncing tracks between his SP & PC. It seems like he uses the SP mainly for playing live & adding grit.

He did a show where I live and he had a little table set up to sell merch. So I went up and chatted. We talked for at least an hour about gear and skating etc...he actually didn't know to much About the sp series other then the 404. but he said he uses alot of fruity loops for sequencing etc. Really nice guy dope music too

Funny. I listened to a bunch of teens shit today. Looked up similar artist to flying lotus and teebs and samiyam came up. And Hudson Mohawks. teens is pretty cool. I can tell he is using parallel compression on his sounds, synced to something that isn't audible in the track, giving the samples their own rhythm. Pretty sweet stuff.
