i have been looking into this bad boy for a few weeks now. first off the video above is one of the reasons....two this thing can pitch i think off %....3 this thing can even chop samples and lay them across the 9 pads, it does it like the 505 i think (i probably won't use the chop but none the less that is cool that it is on here)...4 you can resample like crazy on here (sounds and phrases)...5 gang of effects but i am not 100 % sure if it can resample with the effect on, that would suck if it can't....6 i think it will bring some fun back into making music and that is key for me right now, hasn't been as fun lately....7 make my rhythm better or at lest make be better at playing drums on rock band game. lol....
i think dude black milk uses on live shows, any of y'all rock one of these???

Hey I been saving for one of these for a little while, should be getting one next month I hope!
Mostly for the reasons you mentioned, I wanted to learn rhythm and perhaps pick up some propper drumming skills if i get a pedal in the future.
I also like the fact it has mute groups. It has midi out so id like to see how it plays with the 404, perhaps I could sample on the 404 and trigger using the spd so I had mute groups (I don't know, i'm not too hot on midi capabilities) then lay drums with the spds too.
I didnt know about pitch and chop features though, and the extent of the effects! Sounds really cool.

Re: My Next Purchase! Roland SP(d-s)
their album is not bad
what do you think they use in this video as the main sampler/machine? an sp555? they use other live things too (guitars, vst synths), this is interesting for me
Re: My Next Purchase! Roland SP(d-s)
Finally picked one of these up from a Cash Convertors, 160 bones. Figured if I don't like it I can flip it on ebay and make a decent profit.
Literally just got it, trying to find some some cables so I can try sampling, thought it was rca but its 1/4"

I did a lil research a few weeks ago. loox like some of these things have issues with double-triggering of pads (like hit pad 2, and hear pad 2 & 3). donno if this unit does.
pretty into them tho. and a footpedal changes things too.

Yeah, crosstalk is what they call it, from what I read it can happen in the spd s if you treat it badly.
This has a much steeper learning curve than a 303/404 etc
Seems to be better once you know what you want to do with the sample rather than experimenting like I do on my 404 (regarding effects)
Interesting thing anyway.
