Quantize question on the SP-606 | And P606 question..

Post by PHeMoX »

Hi there.

I was just wondering what's the usually correct setting for a normal "boom boom bap" quantized beat?
I've got the samples, I know what I want to play, but I need the right quantize setting and can't quite figure it out. :?:

Edit: I've just found out that my SP-606 keeps saying:

'An error occurred while connecting to the hardware device. Please check your device connections.'

P606 will close now.'

Drivers are installed -> Windows wants me to restart the computer to let the changes take effect -> no connection established.

I'll try to re-install everything, but if anyone has some good advice on this, let me hear please!

note: The USB itself seems to work fine, because I've already used it to sample from a source like Windows Media Player and were able to load samples into the device manually. In short - I don't believe it's a hardware failure, but more so Windows' stubbornness of some sort.

Small update: apparently reinstalling Windows XP seems to help most people on the internet who are having the same problem ... but reinstalling Windows XP is an absolutely 'no go' for me... [censorred]

As far as opening P606, try not hooking up or turning on your SP until your computer is totally booted up. The same thing was happening to me and that fixed it for me.

Good Luck

Thanks, I will try that out right away. I did always hook it up way before my computer was fully booted up. Thanks, hope this works. :)

I'm currently in the process of updating both the drivers and the SP-606 itself to the latest versions.. not sure, but perhaps that'll help somehow too.

Okey, so far still no luck whatsoever getting P606 running...

I've even removed all cables from all my USB ports, uninstalled all USB mainhubs, generic USBs and so on from the configuration screen in Windows, but it didn't solve anything.

In Windows the SP606 MME 'driver is installed but isn't working properly', I'd wish they had a separate driver so I can 'force a reinstall' only on that somehow ...

I had this problem, had to reinstall the P606 software with the SP plugged into the comp. Then it worked.

BTW Kinetic is far less trouble....and better too (although slightly more CPU intensive!) :D

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I'll try that, but it doesn't get recognized as a MIDI device in Windows itself either. Did you have that too?

Anyways, thanks I'll try this out asap. :)

(edit: I'm going to try the P-606 software on a different computer this weekend, perhaps it really is just windows causing this.)

Nah, never had any problems with my installation, except one (lol); after running the vst wrapper I couldn't get plain old wav files to load into it - but a reinstall fixed the issue (and the vst effects were still there too :) )

As for your original quantise function - I don't know what the 'boom bap' sound is really tbh - but DJ Frantic knows a fair bit about quantizing, so perhaps he can help.

Okey, thanks. I've just tried to reinstall with the SP attached... but still the same problem.

Do you think Roland would be willing to tell me what files exactly go where when installing the driver? I'm asking because I've just realized that it keeps installing the driver into the wrong Windows directory.

Mmmm, got to find their email address, since long-distance calls will kill me. ;-)

Update: I've got P606 to work on my parents PC. At first it didn't work there either, some conflict with a soundcard (audio-Media device).

I've figured out what went wrong though. Basically I needed to install the drivers first without the device attached, after that attach the device.

Windows will off course want to restart which is what you want to do. After that it's about 100% that Windows wants to install a Multi-media audio controller or something like that. Don't install those Windows drivers, but simply cancel. Restart Windows again and it will work.

I've also did what Mike Acosta said to me, switch all MIDI settings inside the SP-606 off at first. My current settings are 'vender driver' to "on", 'input sw on' and output src = input.
