anyone heard of QWEL and MAKER?

Post by springwater »

I just got put on to these cats the other day. This dude Qwel got a nice ass flow and the beats be dumping. Just wondering if anyone has been keeping up with this dude. My boy in the boonies has more access to good underground hip hop than i do living in the city. The last random find i got was Modill, dude from chicago and five deez out of ohio. Im trying to get on to some new shit, well new to me. So i can stop ending up in Kayne West battles and putting pete rock and Black Milk tracks on loop.

I know of Maker from his work with Meaty Ogre.. they were the first cats along with Memphix and Rehash who were putting out instrumental hiphop 45s in the early '00s. I bought a bunch of CDs and vinyl directly from Meaty around '04 and one was a CD of beats he did along with Maker titled "Meat Your Maker" pretty dope beats..

Maker recently did a project with the entire Now-Again Records back catalogue and came up with some HARD boom bap. Check for it.

thanks, will do! And Five Deez is the shit. I really dig Fat Jon the ample soul physicians beats the most, really follow his whole discography. But Kool Motor is my favorite five deez shit.
I just got put on to Qwel and Maker, ill keep searching for other stuff of their.

Together and apart they are dope. Qwel's lyrical content is a bit political...not really my taste. Maker is a great producer...but again, not my taste. But yes, I've heard of them and I have them on my iPod. :)

Have you ever heard of Meaty Ogre?

Edit* lol, didnt read that Meaty was already mentioned...

Yeah typical cats and qwel are ill. If you go to the galalopogos website they have all albums for download, or at least they did about 6 months ago. One guy on that label I think is from the bay area, Meztizo.
