Memory card or not?

Post by jaybrown »

What up guys. This is my first post and I'm new to the 404 , so bear with me. So , I recently copped a 404 off ebay . I messed around with it for a few days without a compact flash card and had no problems. I bought a brand new Transcend (80x) 1gb card also off ebay. I formatted the card to the machine , and started learning to use it. A couple of days later, I turn it on , press bank c/g , and press pad 1. No sound. Pad 2,3,4..... Still no sound.I had filled every pad with samples , so I'm like WTF!!! So I try banks A and B , and no sound from any of the pads.Once again I'm like WTF!!!! So I check all of my connections and everything is good.So , just out of curiosity , I removed the memory card. Banks A and B work fine .I put the card back in and experienced the same problem with no sound. I then reformatted the card to the machine and everything worked fine . I resampled everything that I lost and everything seemed okay . Now , a few days later, I had the same problem .Does this seem like a compatibility issue or maybe a faulty card ? Or , does this seem like There is a problem with the machine?I'm thinking card , because everything functions properly when the fuckin card is ejected..Thanks for reading , and any feedback would be appreciated.

Yeah sounds like the card... although somewhat unusual behaviour - I had a transcend card that didn't work, but it didn't work in a different way... (sometimes pads wouldnt record/playback would glitch out)

Unfortunately the only way to know is to get a card that is known to work and compare what happens... try to find the 'working cards' thread on here for a list.. Sandisk ultra 2 is really the way to go, but its hard to find any cards these days.
Samples.

hope so!

sometimes double format helps, like computer then sp-. my 808 works fine with zips but just one makes it buzz and wirr. strangely all cf's have worked so far on the 404.
