when adding your snares put it on quantize four,
then add high hats and kicks on a 16th quantization...
that way the snares level perfect.....

just a post to help new people out its what i do and im new....

Tips from OLD people - ?

when using 'air swing' - recording a space before the actual snare sample - and then adjusting the start point of the sample to drag the snare back some ticks... to give it some swing..

Would you also do the same for the hi-hats to synchronize the snare/hats on 2 and 4 -

or

leave hats strictly on the quantized beat and snares on air swing to drag slightly behind the hats?

(have been analysing some beats from drum machines and notice that's what they have done)

or... I guess people switch between the two depending how they feel - and turn the quantize off altogether if they feel like it.

mad.

absolutely mad.

Practice a lot and read the darn manual while trying out the procedures described in the manual.

I do everthing in 16th triplets on the 404. And on the lovely 555 pads im starting to move away from quantize and making my drums on the loop capture.

someone a while back talked bout killing the metronome, which i had never done.

now i turn off quantize and the metronome and the beats are far more 'on' (or at least, as desired) than they were when i was trying to sculpt stuff a bit more.

what? qwantize? i think you just DON'T select a quantize value. i think the default is 'off'...if not, you just turn the dial (can't remember which one) til you get like quarter, half, off.

the metronome i just turn waaaay down.

is that what yr asking dude?

EDIT: note, i think you have to do this each time. i don't think you can keep settings permanent.

I don't mean quantize. I mean the metronome, can you turn it off or down?

oh yeah, you can turn down the metronome. when you hit 'rec' and set the bpm for the pattern and aw that, i think you hit the 'level' button and adjust one of the dials (second or third) and you can increase or decrease the volume of the metro.

hope that helps!

It's all in the manual, even the "flying lotus" technique is plainly layed out.

The Dr. means that the manual explains every step needed to perform the flying lotus technique. It's just up to the end user to combine/use features of the machine in a way that solves his/her problem.
