is there any albums with some bass solo work by this cat..apparently this song is a george duke remake? Regardless,it's mad beautiful- i like it when i see current artists that i can picture being sampled 30,40,50 years from now too...originally i was gonna post up a link to some robot chicken thunder cats skits, but this was too dope... 8)

It's a cover of a George Duke song. Here's the original:

I first heard this via Soundcloud. I was hooked every since and this is one tune that doesn't leave my mp3 player. I even like it better than the original.
As admbmb mentioned, this guys has worked with a lot of artists and its a great bass player. Kind of remind me of Paul Jackson (Bassist in groups like Herbie Hancocks Head Hunters). Hell, I'll just post a vid of Paul in action.

Paul Jackson & Mike Clark (Both featured on Head Hunters crew)*

Part 1

Part 2

Especially check out part two, and you'll get why I feel like Thundercats playing style is similar.

Anyhoo, This Thundercat is a guy to watch. Really inspiring when a producer like Fly Lo and other are using more live instrumentation in their works. Something I hope to accomplish in the future.

*Harvey Mason was on the original drummer of head hunters. Mike Clark joined the Head Hunters band without Herbie Hancock FYI.

man, awesome vids of Paul Jackson ( the george duke one doesn't work).

regarding flylo - I was thinking of this guy as a god - I picked up cosmograma on vinyl just recently. I checked out the credits and to be honest I was so dissapointed. flylo had so many amazing and talented people doing all sorts of shit (string / brass arrangement by certain people, thundercat on bass, etc.) and he NEVER talked about these masters in interviews I saw or read. But those people were definately a very big part of the magic that happened on cosmograma. granted flylo is a master at production, however lots of credit goes to those people.

I just tried the George Duke link and it worked for me. If anything, just go on youtube and type in "George Duke- For Love (I Come Your Friend)" (minus quotes obviously) and you'll get the original song.

As far as FlyLo not mentioning the names of artists he worked with. That's debatable. Other artists, from Stevie Wonder, to Horacee Arnold, to Bilial, to Chris "Daddy" Dave, etc.. don't really mention the other amazing artist they work with, because it's that person who has the spotlight. Chris "Daddy" Dave is a prime example. he works a lot with Robert Glasper (Check this guy out if you don't know) and Derrick Hodge (Another guy to check out), yet they are friends. They are featured in each others bands. It's just that each of them may have the spotlight on this. Robert Glasper's RCDC Experiment has the two other mentioned artists in the band, but Robert is the one that has the spotlight on him so it's all about him. Just the way things seem to work. If you were to ask them, they would mention all the other guys, but interviewers usually don't. Same thing with Thundercat. Fly Lo is producing his album, but the interviews will be all about Thundercat.

Regardless, also check out this vid. It has Fly Lo, Thundercat, Chris "Daddy" Dave (on drums), as well as Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Violinist, band leader). I'll link you guys to the youtube vid as well as the bandcamp page.

Thundercat is really cool. I like how people are starting to get excited about traditional instruments.

well I guess I am a difficult customer. I don't really dig it. it has some nice tunes on it like fleer ultra. but to be honest it just sounds like a mid to late 70s fusion album to me. I don't really see any new twists to the theme (aka trademark "produced by flylo" sounds). It is like breakestra. cool and groovy but not really "new" . And with flylo at the mixing desk I was hoping for more fresh straight from the future flavor I guess.
Once I get over my too high expectations I think I can still enjoy the album though.

To each's own of course, but as far as "trademarked flylo sounds" i wasn''t expecting it to sound anything like a flylo record...because it's not his album. There are little hints of his touch in the synth worth and programming....but i think Thundercats style is pretty distinct and consistent throughout the album...Also, the two singles that were released prior showed the tone of the album anyway, so the " mid to late 70s fusion" vibe wasn't all that shocking

the album is growing on me. That was just my initial reaction - maybe I shouldn't have posted that.

I have heard him give credit where credit is due to most of the great players he used on cosmogramma... Keep in mind that he was orchestrating everybody and turning these other great players onto a new style of music. They both were stepping into new areas.

Very excited to hear all the new Thundercat music. I can't get enough of bass players that aren't tucked away in the mix, and really take the music to a whole notha mfckn level! 8) I am wearing sunglasses and smiling right now so the smiley is called for

Well with these two posts on top of each other I am coming across as a big flylo hater, which by all means I am not. He got me into electronic music in the first place!
It is just that I am waiting to be blown away by his sound again as I was when I heard him first - when I bought the the reset ep back in the day. And its just not happening with his latest releases...he was and still is one of my biggest influences though.
that being said I am on my third thundercat listen in a row, so... yeah. I really like by now ;)
