Quick question im confused by, I understand recording samples from vinyl, or exporting wav and then chopping them up on the sp an doing it like that, an also I can export the samples back to my computer, but what do you use when you want to record a song? Do you people go through a usb interface an record staight to that an transfer it to your computer, or export samples onto a program and then do all the moving around there. Im looking for a simple way to just record my samples onto a program, not each one by itself then doing it myself since I believe you cannot transport patterns on the sp 404, unless you record to your sound board an vise verse, thanks.Ive searched around and just couldnt find what I was looking for

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking? You want to know how to record songs from the SP?

You do it just the same way you would any other instrument. I guess most people these days are going through the RCAs to their sound card and into DAW, personally I just use a multitrack for recording and mixing. Sometimes when I'm just getting my ideas down I record whole tracks using resample. I've not heard of anyone transferring samples from the SP to another sequencer and then constructing the track in there but it's certainly possible.

Or I have to get an rc cable to hook it up, any specific ones needed, an these would hook right up to record right onto a program i guess? Anyone no any good tips for pitch control too, thanks im slow with this thing an just have a few questions here an there

Depends on what connections your sound card has. Some DJ specific cards have RCA inputs but most only use TRS for line level inputs. Get some RCA to TRS cables and you should be good to go.

ah, I use a A dynex card reader.

It has to go through sound card, cant just go to laptop? Or through something to laptop

Oh ok sorry now I see your dilemma, I thought you said you had a USB audio interface, not a card reader. I guess you could go straight to laptop but I've never done it and I don't know what kind of results it's going to produce as laptop manufacturers (yes, even Apple) tend to spend very little on sound components.

Can I just get a midi cord and record straight to sp to a midi controller an get that to computer/mp3? Or just an normal rca cable to hook right up to computer? Would these work, seem like cheapest an fastest to get me started

MIDI is not audio, it is data, lots of 1s and 0s combined to send messages between different devices, it does not have anything to do with recording.

Good read:

Yeah you could just get a RCA to mini jack cable and use that but like I said I don't know how good the quality is going to be or if it's going to make any difference.

An alternative (if you have the SX) would be just to use resample to record everything in the box. Then getting your music onto your computer is as simple as putting the SD card into the reader.

Yeah if you're looking for a decent recorder I'd say Boss is a safe bet. Tascam and Zoom also do some good budget recorders. Zoom now have the R8 which is a recorder, audio interface, and sampler in one

dirt, dirt cheap interface since you have RCA out:

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA202- ... B000KW2YEI

never used, but decent reviews. That is bare bone as it gets (also would be good for grabbing vinyl to PC

But you'd be avoiding the middle man/ portable recorder stage.
Those are cool but I had one and got tired of recording to that then having to USB to PC , slowly get the WAV files off, then drag those into a DAW etc....

If you are willing to spend over 100 yeah start looking at tascam, zoom, boss interfaces....I had good luck with a lexicon lambda, moved on to a alesis multimix 2.0 and also a tascam 1641
