I'm an MPC user tying to get into SPs. I bought a 404 online and started playing with it this afternoon. I've been trying to construct a beat using the resampling method but I'm having some trouble with latency when resampling.

For example, if I'm resampling 1/8 notes on a HH, the first pad I hit lags behind as the machine starts to record instead of starting to record smoothly.

Is this normal? If it is how do you guys work around it? If it's not, any ideas what the problem could be?

some cards don't transfer data fast enough, which brand are you using?

It's a PNY 1 gig. Tonight I tried removing the card completely and resampling to bank A to try to isolate the problem a little more. Still the same latency. Is this kind of latency an uncommon problem? I wonder if it could be a damaged machine or something?

a few of the fx have latency when resampling... especially djfx, but i'm guessing you've tried with or without fx. also, there is usually a slight stutter at the very beginning when you are resampling a performance (e.g. tap out drum pattern)

Yeah, I'd describe it as a stutter. Sounds like it must be normal then, thanks for the responses, I'll learn to work with it!

yeah, the trick is to play it past the stutter, like maybe play it through 2 or 3 times, and then mark out the part where its right on

yeah i guess i'm so used to it it's not a problem anymore. after pressing resample/rec i usually smash a bunch of pads for a second to shake out the latency before i start where my start mark will be. gets me warmed up to the rhythm anyway, i'm a little awkward jumping right into it.
