maschine is the truth. it has constant updates to improve the software. what got be me sold on it is the sp 1200 feature when u sample the vinyl in at high speed and tune down with the sp efx it sounds like a sp1200 the closest ever. and also u can sample while ur sequence is playin. so if u play from ext. keyboards thats a blessing. u can also chop ur samples while the sequence is playin. and if u made beats on the mpc u can open mpc programs in maschines. the mpc is dope but it has limitations by itself. u can open vst's in there as well like massive. then u can use the maschine with traktor for live shows.

lol nah I have thought about trying one out as well but I jus hate the computer for making music...I'm sure it actually gives you more flexibility than an MP...but I don't understand what else you need. I feel like I can do everything I need to do on the MP and the other gear I have laying around. The idea of having it all consolidated into one piece of equip and the computer is not attractive to me...I like gear and wires all over the place in my lab and the computer on the other side of the room

but ill make some beats in the 2000xl and track into reason or maschine so i can add extra filters. i used to think i would never fuck with software im good with my mpc and 303. flylo was tryin to give me reason in 06. i wish i wouldve got that then. but u can have the best of both worlds . but once i got out of thinkin software vs hardware i started learning shit. but i can never competely abandon the mpc or sp ever. lol

word up...yea man like I said I have been considering it...which means I'll prob do it eventually. you are way further along in the progression then me as far as producing...I emceed for years and years before ever making a beat, so in a lot of ways I'm still just finding my sound and getting into the groove with my hardware set up. also don't have the time at the moment to start learning a new process, maybe next year if time opens up a bit I'll try out Reason or Logic and a midi based set up like Maschine or something

SP plugin = Bitcrush + Low Pass filter + Compress.

or sampletrak at 16 kHz sampled at 45 rpm then ptched down...or just sampled at 16 regularly then pitched at least 2-3 levels either higher or lower really, sampling at 45 isn't even neccessarry unless u want shit extra grainy..much simpler.ST!

seems weird to me to buy new, high end equipment to obtain older, lo-fi sounds. also a lot of the new beat making devices just add more memory and layering abilities, but that can be accomplished with a hardware multitracker for under $200 if you are good at playing samples live. i do all my tracks into a tascam, mixdown, then layer on that if my sp's run out of polyphony. but live capability is different, just depends on how you expect to showcase your work

I am seeing that maschine doesn't just add memory - it adds soundshaping possibilities similar to a daw - you can pan everything on the fly add sidechaining, filter the shit out of stuff and bitcrush it and then limit the track to a rectangulat waveform. you can do everything anytime and mostimportantly you can undo everything you did on the fly.

I am thinking about maschine more and more.

haha... sad but true. in all honesty I am pretty happy with my current setup. I am thinking of ditching sp303 ... even biscuit is kinda sad in the corner collecting dust as I am doing almost everything in the fisherprice keyboard. it is limited but it has such a charm and a punchy overall sound too.

what I am trying to say is: I don't really want or by all means need maschine. it offers too many possibilites (similar to live) for me, it will confuse me and will make me spend more money on plugins (which as lodger wrote above is not a good investment) - I will just keep on making music instead with the stuff I got. for now. haha ;D

what I will work on soon (diy) is the signal flow in the computer. I am diying a 2 channel di box right now. my rhodes will love it (if anyone is handy with a soldering iron have a look here: http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=36569.0 )

and a.D. thanks for washing my head - I needed that

Yeah seriously, there's like 99 ways to get grain into your sound, plugins aren't the answer.

+1. Don't fake the funk. I'm not going to lie, I love me some Vinyl Sim and the like but the concept/name kind of seems like pandering. There's countless plugins from low end to high high end (Neve/SSL/Manley) that emulate gear. Man why would I want to emulate something physical that already exists, you're a computer, you should be able to make sounds that are transdimensional. New sound!

All that said, I still think the Maschine is a bastion of things to come as far as beatmaking. If all my gear got destroyed in a tornado/earthquake/zombie attack I think I'd seriously consider the Maschine, but if you've got a way of working already I don't see it offering much more in the way of features or workflow. One to watch though.

Coincidentally it's on sale at a store near me here in the UK today. Hmm...

I am sure you know but you can do that with any mixing board and MPC (or any other beat machine) that utilizes multiple outputs...there is no magic to Maschine...it's just a consolidated version of standard gear...a DAW is jus a mixer with some frillz. The main thing these machines offer is convenience, but it's simply false that it allows you to do things that weren't possible before with old gear

Lotta quality posts here.

I think I'm gonna stick to my guns with my MPD24, FL Studio, and the 303 on the side. I'm just gonna create and structure new templates. I know people that got the Maschine who had other midi-controllers with a heap of knobs. Funny thing was that they never really utilized the knobs and faders to the fullest.

Perhaps in the future I will reconsider a change of gear.
