I'm jus stating my opinion based on what I have read that you typed. I feel like you might be getting some of your info from over the top/overdone sources...exaggerations and shock/fear talk don't really help people wrap their mind around things. This whole movement of enlightening the people needs more intelligence in it's execution...

Oh, you mean like Alex Jones and people like that. Well, I do believe some of the things he says, but not a lot of it. I also think he is somewhat of a hypeman for his own movement(which is his income). I just think that all of this terrorist crap, 911, and the Bin Laden story are all lies used against us to the governments advantage. Bottom line is that the world as a whole is on the brink on some serious shit. You are right, we are all in this together.

i'm not from the u.s., i have my own opinion on the country but whatever it may be, i value yours, i mean the persons' who live there, more. but there's one thing you should take into account: comparing life in your country with life elsewhere gets you nowhere. of course there are worse places than the u.s. but that doesn't cancel out the problems and the most important thing is that such comparison is used to dumb down discussion so often that it kinda has no legitimacy even before it is used. so fuck that. one knows one's own hell best, and you have every right to be pissed off about your country just like people in the 'worse' as well as in 'better' countries have a right to be pissed off about theirs.

by the way, the first thing i saw when i came to the u.s. was a white cop knocking out a black guy. i leave it to you to decide whether this episode has an illustrative value.

the reason I use that argument is b/c the younger generation especially seems to more or less hate this country...there are injustices everywhere in the world, overall this is a great country...people should love it have more pride in their nation. how can you truly work toward repairing something that you loathe? a question to ponder

i'd say that country, nation, place and inhabitants are very different things. country is a state, there's so much reason to hate it (just like any other state). nation is a concept invented somewhere in the late seventeenth / early eighteenth century, and imho it was a pretty damn harmful idea. then there are places, most of which have many great things: for instance, i'd say that the u.s. is a ridiculous country but it's a wonderful place, which makes me wanna come back:) and the inhabitants are something else than what would usually be referred to as 'americans' (what does that even mean in a country like the u.s.?), but the people you meet in a place. like there are the stereotypical dumb-minded americans straight outta television (they do indeed exist:), then there are bums you meet in the street that just blow your mind away with their wisdom, and then there are the rest, whoever you encounter:)

but i tend to agree that hating one's country while wet dreaming about how much better it is elsewhere gets you nowhere, it's the reverse side of the same comparison.

what is so ridiculous about the U.S. as a country if you don't mind me asking? and I know you said comparing to other countries/nations/places (semantics) isn't helpful...but if the things which make it ridiculous are the same injustices/inequalities that occur in other countries/places/nations, then it isn't really ridiculous it's just fucked up and unfair in many ways like everywhere else

yeah, that's what u.s. is ridiculous about. sorry, maybe my english is not too skilled and the word 'ridiculous' shouldn't be used in this case:) i mean, of course you compare countries you've been to and so on. u.s. is not the worst country in the world, but in many ways it is harsher than some other countries, inequalities are very visible, the police force is pretty massive and very much present in the streets, etc. all of these things are present in many parts of the world. i just meant that i don't see any point in denouncing one's own country while idealizing other parts of the world.
