Greetings everyone Kinda Stumped!

When creating a pattern using multiple samples, do I have to ensure all the BPM matches
before recording, or does the sp 404 automatically adjusts the beats.

For instance recording a pattern using samples I generated from my turntable.
I looped all the versus, bass line, and beats on to individual pads.

Using the following pattern options to record:
lenght 2 bars
Quantizize 4
BPM 86(or whatever)

Does the sp 404 automatically adjust the loops to fit the 2 bars?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

well in the user manual it says that it may be double or lower....i dont think its exactly accurate on how it mathces it but it counts the length and it guesses my guess would be just mess with it until you think it sounds good.....i dno

Thanks man. I tried that, but its kinda getting frustrating. each loop is either a bit long or short, so it can't gel together. If i was on 2 decks it would be a breeze. Technology hey.....lol

The Pattern BPM only determines the timing at which the samples will "hit" themselves after you've recorded something. It doesn't pay any attention to the BPM of the samples themselves. You'll notice if you record a pattern and change the BPM of it, all the sounds will trigger at the wrong time, but they'll still be at their original BPM.

It could be that your loops are a little off of a whole number BPM, if that makes sense. Your BPM may be 86 1/2 BPM, but you can fix that by setting the Pattern to 173 BPM (86.5 x2) and adjusting your quantization accordingly.

Once again thanks for the response everyone much appreciated.

i will try and give it a go. I basically got some old african drumming records from my dad. So I have recorded some of the loops, and now I am trying to layer other samples on top of that to record a pattern.
Kind of like a "mash up CD".

I hope these loops match up....

Just to clarify......I adjust the BPM of the samples prior to recording pattern or during the recording

waz up man. Have you ever recorded samples ie loops from records and combined them into a pattern on the sp 404

Just got my 404 today.
Been playing with it for a few hours and I'm having the same problem with the BPM of the samples matching with the metronome count and suggested BPM of the sample.

I'm thinking about copying the samples (which I recorded via the mic) from the CF Card onto my computer and cleaning up the files with a program and to also get another "opinion" of the BPM of the sample. What you said above about the 1/2 beat problem is a good workaround (doubling the BPM to get that figure).

Do many/any of you guys copy your stuff to a comp and do a cleanup if you can't get it to match? Wondering if there's an easier way to do this since I could have edited the sample on my computer in the first place to save time.

I think that is the best way to work around it . Editing your cust and loops and then importing the files. Huph's suggestion worked just as well also by 2x the BPM.

What I have done to create some mash up vibes is sample a beat, looped it perfectly and thes making my cuts on the turntable vibing off the loop.
So once recorded, it already matches...
