Multitrackers and 404's

Since some people here have 8-tracks and SP-404's and such, I'm curious about how the multitrack thing goes along with beats made with a machine that only has one stereo channel output, kicks, snares, samples, all. There's isn't really a track mute in 404 so I expect you guys "mix" the levels in 404 and record it to one stereo track? Wait, there's no pan either in the 404. Damnnn. If you want to keep single sound levels and pans mixable in the tracker, how you do that? You don't? I guess you can mute stuff if you use an external sequencer?

dude-just write down the volumes of all of your samples,and turn down eveything but what you want to record to a single track,so on and so forth..damn,for real?

I guess it was too obvious. Got my 404 just a few weeks ago and haven't tried recording out of it yet. Thanks so much and sorryyy for the stupid topic.

Yeah, AD came up with a good solution. If you dont plan to throw any effect on the top of the samples, you can also mute specific samples by marking them, while for example "Isolator FX" is ON ( you gotta turn all 3 effect knobs to 0 to mute the samples ).

Im good with "mixing" inside 404 though. Ive never really tracked my stuff outside of it - each sample to an individual track. You can even pan your samples inside the box using resampling with tremolo/pan fx. But maybe its just me...

of course you never gonna achieve this "clean professional million dollar studio" sound by acting like this, but as long as you(and few other peoples) like the final result, there is no need to bother...

u just make the panning cycle very slow, so that the entire sample plays at least once in one ear, then at least once in the other ear.. resample this (must resample to stereo obviously).. recording a few cycles is easier.. then just mark out the one that is panned hard left/hard right depending what you want. then use the RCA outputs as channel 1/channel 2 rather than left/right. of course this means only mono sounds coming out, but you can always pan later on down the track when ur mixing or something (if ur multitrack has panning)
