sooo... octatrack anyone?

Post by YellowT »

Just wondering? All I heard so far are the hardcore in the pocket electro guys doing their thang, I am wondering if any of the loose and unquantized peope around these forums tried this machine? I think it looks wicked for live performing!
the only thing that is kinda meh are the two only outputs... oh well.

I love/hate Elektron's line. It seems so heavily geared toward minimal tech heads (both price wise and function wise) but I wish I could get my hands on a used one. I like the idea of the Octatrack (Ableton in a box I think they called it at one point?) but for over a grand what can it really do that is worth it? Kind of seems like an expensive toy. Kind of like a swedish Electribe. From what I can tell it excels at effects ripping live but in the studio I don't entirely get it.

Tangential but the vocal synthesizer on the Monomachine is way nice, and the Machinedrum is dope for making idm beats on the fly.

my friend has one and it is cool. the filter is gravy. it has some serious potential. however, it's an unfinished product; he can't control his other gear since the midi machines aren't working yet. he seems to do all his chopping on a mac and it only allows for three octaves for mapping a sample. it will be great once it's finished, but like any company they don't want it to replace currently selling gear that they offer or so it seems.

now with the filter and two effects per voice it could give some amazing results. truthfully it doesn't really seem to be geared for the studio.

What kind of music does your homie make? All I ever see youtube demos of them are Richie Hawtin minimal twattery and Squarepusher sloppy idm ripoffs.

this wasn't done with his octatrack but his style music. i like it. and he crosslooped my old tv and camera to make the video. plus he's a circuit bender! very cool guy imo.

edit; comment on youtube if u like it. he would enjoy that.
