Got a full 505? Delete everything without losing everything.

Hey All,

A few of us on here have SP-505s that we've basically filled (so, all 99 sequences are loaded with something we've done). The manual's a LITTLE vague on what to do in this sitch ("delete some unwanted samples"?), but I just took the plunge on erasing everything and lived to tell the tale.

1) hit "System" & "Card" & do a backup of each User Bank in the 505's system.
2) hit "System" & "Card" & do a backup of all Sequences and Songs.
3) hit "System" & "Initialize" and choose what you wanna delete (I did "All").

Check the User Banks (all empty now!) and User Patterns (all empty too!) and yr 505 is like new.

You can then reload yr User Banks and Sequences / Songs if you want to.
Hit "System" & "Card" & load, and choose to either load up yr Pad Banks or your Sequencer data. Pad Banks get loaded one at a time, but one load of Sequencer data loads all Seq / Song data in one go.

NOTE: I would recommend backing up yr SM card to yr PC before actually deleting all yr Seq / Song & Pad Bank data from the 505 in case shiz goes haywire.

SO! I know this is sooooorta in the manual, and I know that some cats have tried it with one or two sequences, but I just deleted everything and got everything back.

It's like a whole new 505! Wicked.

So for all you cats who were afraid to try this, don't be. I was terrified I'd lose aw the work from the last coupla years, and I did, but it is easily retrievable.

Now: back to filling up the 5ive Oh again!
