Maschine vs MPC1000

People I'm breaking my head right here.
I can't seem to figure out which too choose.
I got warmed up on Maschine, but I hear it still is buggy and lacks certain crucial ingredients. I can't tell precisely though.. cuz I dont own one.

I read alot of good stuff about the MPC1000. The usb connection etcetera. But I'm not sure if it works well in combination with a DAW. If I for instance make a beat on the MPC would it be possible to drag n drop it in FL to finish it, add more stuff to it without any hassle?

I got the MPD24. It's great but I want to move away more from the computer screen making music.

Any tips or advice?

i'm pretty sure there won't be any 'easy drag'n'drop' between mpc and fl studio;)..
i think you really should look at the way you are makin music right now.
so i see you own a sp303 and mpd24.
basically

Machine => better(more complex?) version of mpd+daw
MPC1000 => better(more complex?) version of sp303



so if you'd like to do the next step in 'hardware direction' the MPC will help you to get rid of using the computer, because with sp+mpc you'll hardly need a computer.

well, thats how i think. i do own only a midi keyboard + daw + sp404
so i'm not really an expert.

Im still starting off with hardware. But I'd like to be able to 'finish' tracks on a DAW. But I just wonder if the MPC will work in an efficient and easy way. Is it possible to for instance record 'tracks' from the MPC onto different channels in a DAW? So you can bounce the MPC project into your DAW on individual tracks?

Honestly if you've not started on an MPC, I'd go with Maschine. Sounds like you're computer-sided a bit already (FL) and it'll make your workflow easier.

I love love LOVE MPCs but I started on one and so now I'm hooked. It's a bitch to track beats out to the computer (adds like half an hour to mixing time at least). I'm trying to segue off of an MPC for making beats (still keeping it for doing live shows) but if I had the option nowadays I'd start on something like Maschine. The interface is 90% there imho (having played with it for a few hours max) and software updates should follow up with most issues any given user will have.

I used to own maschine

I thought the Live drum racks and a midi controller was all I really needed. After awhile I stopped using maschine's step seq and I only used a handful of fx that I really didn't need so I guess it was kinda overkill for what I was doing, which was just drums.

Yo I used to work on the 2000xl for a long time, but I picked up the Maschine a few months ago and that is basically my workhorse for my main production.
I still use the 404 to grind out some stuff, but when it comes to well produced, great sounds, it is hands down one of the best setups I've had.
MPC's can become limiting, because they do not offer the bridgeway from hardware to software.
Don't get me wrong I love the MPC's and their workflow, but Maschine is the future of production for me.

does Maschine carry a memory bank? I assume its more like an advanced midi controller. Because I read it works stand alone. But what is stand alone in this case? Does it have a memory bank and an built in pattern sequencer? I assume it doesn't. So again its basically an advanced midi unit whit an extra that you can put your keyboard and mouse away. But still what you bang out on it is strictly visible as software right?!

Stand alone in the this case means you do not need to use the keyboard or mouse to do most of the functions. It still needs to be plugged into the computer for it to work properly. It does not have any internal memory for saving samples. This is all done on the computer.

"stand alone" means you just run the program by itself and not as a vst/plug.

and the controller is just a midi controller dongle, it has no memory or anything like that, your computer that you plug it into is the brain.

I would go with an Akai MIDI control and Ableton Live 8. Half way between the two and I guarantee you won't regret it.

i have a MPC, and sp404.. To me for time constrants I go with ableton and sp 404.. Also throw in the mpc but its a little set up time for that.. Its what u are comfortable with, some ppl like Drasar Monumental came up on only MPC so that what they master.

I mostly cosign on the MPD / Ableton route (mostly because it's cheaper and Live can do more overall) but the Maschine has a lot of control of the software designed directly into the controller. Example - picking samples, assigning effects. If there was a more robust sample editor and I never had to look at the screen then I'd be all over that beast but I'm waiting for someone to make the next iteration. I think the hardware/software combo is the way it's going but they need to be a little more tightly integrated than Live / MIDI controller in order for me to have a steady beatmaking workflow.

They just need to create a parallel situation. Where you have a live synchronized sampler that can be fully integrated with a DAW. So when you work on either your sampler or your DAW both projects can be worked on. Either via the sampler or your computerscreen. That would be perfect.

That's basically what the mv8000/8800 are. It's also what was planned for the Beat Thang if it ever gets released.

I'm starting to lean more towards the MPC1000. I guess this machine can do all that is really necessary. And besides that how much work is it to (group) track out your work to a computer for additional sounds or fx with a DAW?! Also I can record sounds from a DAW into the MPC without much of a hassle I guess. So basically all the ingredients are there.

Only thing I wonder is the file management in the MPC1000. Can you easily save a project in the MPC and work on others and get back to the previous one without changes anytime?
