SP-303 + Korg Kaossilator = Jazzilator

Post by vingthorthehurler »

Hi SP-Fam,
Just as I announced several months ago... I'm sharing this project with all of you... I created this project using just the SP-303, a Korg Kaossilator and vinyl... it was mixed and mastered by my DJ (DJ MVP), I had a little help on the first beat by my kids Mya (7 y.o.) and Keon (2 y.o.) we had such a great time playing with the sounds so I decided to included that beat on this project, also artwork was designed by my daughter Mya, I need to thanks to all of the people who collaborate in this project, I really enjoyed working with all of you...
I hope you like it and enjoy just like I did :D
Peace!

Def gonna check this out!

That's really cool that you are including the beat you did with your kids and your daughters artwork. My daughter is almost a year old, she likes it when I load up the MP with drum sounds and let her get silly on the pads lol

Word!
Thanks for checking this bro, definitively my kids are the best thing that could ever happen to me... and I believe that enjoying what you like with people who you love is the best of the best! both of my kids are always trying to mess my work when I'm hitting the pads so from time to time I just stop what I'm doing and I let them play with me... I actually bought a Yo Gabba Gabba record for them so when they want to play with my turntable I just pull out that record and we start dancing on the studio lol...

What up Locotes! Glad to see you completed this man. and I love the artwork, and inclusion of your daghters,-these kids can drive us crazy sometimes-i'm raising 3 girls,so along with their mom,i'm out numbered by girl power 4-1,lol-but when it comes down to it with children, the good outweighs the bad by so much that it makes the bad irrelevent. I don't know how I could possibly live without my girls at this point, I'm sure you feel the same. Also I got my 8 year old singing on one of my tracks for my upcoming instrumental project :)

Anyway-as far as the music-really dope stuff, for real-I love the combo of the classic 90's type sound & the synths-& you didn't overdo it with the synth, kept it real subtle on most of these, which imo is a good way to go. My favorite on here is track #3-i think it's #3,I listened to it on s.c.,havent downloaded it yet-but the joint with the keys and delayed horns, little synth stabs..mad nice. But i really dug it throughout, and the whole chilled out vibe. Lastly, one of the things i like the most about this is the minimal production set up you used- i love to see really dope projects come out of a few hundred dollars worth of gear as opposed to thousands...when someone does a lot with a little,it really shows how much talent and creativity they have much more than if they had used a studio full of equipment. But yea-real good to see you still doing your thing, keep at it.Stay up...peace

Zup All,
Thanks for the feedback I really appreciated, I want to show the comments to my daughter, since she is 7 she already know to read so she is going to be happy to read the compliments... my son still being to small to understand whats going on lol...

Adru, yeah finally I got this... It took a lot of time since I was extremely busy with work and shit but then I decided to push myself to finish this so I did... but when I sent the beats to my dj he was busy as hell lol so it took another month to him to finish his part... in another hand my daughter was the fastest with her part... and she only charged me an ice cream hahaha...

Damn bro, at home we are 2-2 but my son it's always on her mother side so it is 3-1... hahaha... hey yo... I would like to hear that track where your daughter is singing... I have a track where my daughter sings the chorus when she was 2... so nice... and that track it is not even mine lol... it was a song from a good friends, I heard the chorus and I ask to collaborate so I did... and then I included my daughter since she was singing that chorus all day long... (anyways she also charged me an ice cream on that time lol)

About the beat you are talking about I think is track 5 the one with the horns... I played those keys on the Kaossilator then resample each note to the 303 to sequence in there... drum loop is also from the kaossilator and I added some extra hi hats and shakers from the 303... a lot of work for sure lol... bass in most of the beats are also sample notes from the kaoss and sequenced on the 303...

About the setup yeah I used minimal setup even when I also have a MPC1000 (and I just bought the 2500) anyways after I finished this project I sold my 303 (I received a very good offer and I sell it for almost twice for what I paid) and then I bought the 505 for $65 (128MB SM card included) which I love so much... I think the 505 is the best machine I ever used ( I used to have the MV8000, 3 different MPC1000, the 303 and now the 2500, also the MPD24) but the 505 is a dope machine...

I have a couple pics that I think I could share with all of you...

the first one is the setup I used to produce the beat-tape and the second one the last day that I had the 303... my son is messing around in there lol..

Hey Loco, your compilations really "calmed me down" today after a little hectic college time. 16 minutes of really chilled out vibes, flowing one into another well, and I see that your setup is rather minimalistic which makes the whole thing even doper.
big up for another low budget beatmaker!

PS. Really nice artwork!! SOMEONE's got a drawing talent here ;)

Haha thanks bro, I think today is going to be a great day for my daughter, we are going to the theater to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 and she is going to read all this compliments... she is going to be very happy and proud lol...

Hey yo! thanks for check this out... I don't have the 303 anymore, actually I sell the 303 right after I finish this project then I get the 404 for a couple days and now I have the 505... I think the 505 is the best (at least for me) it has the 303 sound and pad filling but with a display which helps a lot... how is your R3 treating you?

This is awesome. Good production on the beats and just enough turntablism from the DJ. Glad he took his time with it. Great mix of the old school and new school vibe. Just the right amount of kaossilator. Can't wait to hear your new project!
