Ez everyone! I'm Adrian.

I'm 29 at this time of writing. I've been making beats since the old school cheap Casio keyboard days, been a drummer for 15 years, and DJ's Drum & Bass, Dub Techno Music. But started with Hip Hop and love every genre in between.

My first exposure to software was Fruity Loops 3 and Acid Pro 4, and through the years, I've settled with a Tracker (Renoise), Emu E4xt Ultra Sampler, and other bits of hardware. Besides the Emu, My only other true HW sampler is a SP-303 which I scored off craigslist today. Super excited to get into it.

Well sorry for the story, just wanted to let you know my background. I found this place via google (Searching for an SP-303 manual no less). So expect me to pop in here every now and again.

Cheers!

Adrian

if you just got it , it might take some getting used to. the mark button is your friend, reverse is your friend and if you want triplets you have to go double time on the sequencer, so if your beat is 80 bpm go 160 bpm and slap some 8.3's in that ish, slap it hard and call her suzy. if you read enough on here and ask questions, it might save you years of tedious learning by trial and error. alot of people used to give the 303 bad reviews on other sites, but you wont find many on here. 8)

Will do boss. Thanks. My biggest hurdle so far is sequencing a beat strictly in the 303. Just now see how limited the pattern sequencer is.

drum sequencing is a snap. there are basicly 3 ways of doing it prolbably more.

quantize - this is the quickest way, and depending if you like quantized stuff or not, set it to 8s and throw some hats down, or if your working double time 4 is the same. then throw some open hats in there with gate mode on the open hat so it sounds like its closing, you might want to set the quantize higher to 16 or 8 if your double time, now you have hats , so throw some snares in, you can set the quantize to 4 to lock it in better, then add kicks with 8 and 16 and thats how you make a quanitized beat.

resample- alot of people prefer this way due to the loose sound it produces, get all your drums ready and resample a live performance to pads, you can mark loops and chop up and resample your own drumming to add some custom sound. usually these people play other samples live over there drums or they drum over samples arranged in a similar manner.

multi track, this works with both of the obove methods, record your sp into a computer multi track and you can create your songs like this, it gives you full control over basicly every thing in your song and makes it less tedious than working exclusivly start to finish inside the 303.
