Got a SP555, any reason to get a SP303?

Post by blavatsky »

Subject says it, got a 555 and I like it, but curious about the 303's supposed warmer sound + vinyl sim compression - worth $150 or so used?

Don't need another sampler , got ESX , microsampler etc but wanted some pro/con 303 opinions versus 555 or other samplers.

I'd say it's worth it. These days I use mostly the 404 in combo with an mpc but I often break out the 303 when recording final versions of tracks. I find that it def has a grittier almost muddier lo fi kind of sound, some tracks I want that, others I want a bit cleaner sound, and the 404 does the trick for that - I believe the 555 is similar to the 404 in terms of overall sound so I'd say yea it'll add an additional flavor to the mix

the more the merrier. different samplers create different sounds so why not add more flavour to your recipe

$150 is a great deal, but be prepared for slow loading times when deleting, resampling, etc.
