Getting the tail

Guys,

How do you each go about constructing snare tails, decaying hits? I'm curious about how some of you do this. Loop and fade in software, reverb out and resample? What do you find works better when building your beats?

resample with reverb, then trim the reverbed sample so only the tail plays, then resample the og snare while triggering the tail at the right moment. its what i do, if that makes sense

Trimmed short snares work better for me recently. But yeah - reverb or ping pong loop with fadeout in software...

i usually get a banging ass snare then use isolator to put some bass in it, and then make a nother one and mess with the pitch and strech it, or add some mfx voice transformer or something, and layer them with lofi crunk claps, then i resample it all to one pad and hopefully it doesnt sound like a fart or a sneese or something because i usually use the same snare throughout the song, other times no tail is good too

i agree. another option is to just steal the tail off of a sample that has one, and just trigger the tail portion at the appropriate time. resample.


something else that helps pad gated snares is to sample the "silent" part of drum breaks. that room ambiance is a big part of the tail and will help the sample to sit together easier
