I was curious about this idea... as I read some of the posts here I see you can record out to tape ( perhaps a tape recorder). How would you go about doing that with an SP? (Say a 202 or 404) And could I just trigger the samples live, and have what I play be recorded directly onto the tape? That would be pretty sweet lol. I'm completely new to hardware and have no idea about these sort of things.

Also... is it really possible to record to VHS? xD

yeah man just plug it in..

vhs works just the same.. use the audio channels unless u wanna get all digital distorted.. can be interesting to do

if you get really old tapes and a vcr with dirty heads it does all this weird pitch warping and stuff too

I wanted to try this, got a vcr but encountered a problem. Turns out some the the vcrs (like the one i got) cannot record sound without a video input. This is some sort of sync issue. I don't have any devices that produce video signals to fool that thing. Is there a hack around that? or do i need to get something with video signal, plug it in the video in and record sounds through audio in?

there no need to mute tv. 1 rca from tv's video out to vcr's video in would do the trick. the problem is i don't have a tv

Hell yea! Screw TV's! Mine has been sitting broken in my room for a good 6 months lol, I should just move that thing.

Back on topic... I've been wanting to record some tapes for fun too. I was thinkin of trying to pick up an old tascam 424 if I can ever find one.. that would be a fun piece of equipment to have around.

The VCR/VHS thing sounds cool too. It would be dope to get those effects of old equipment cartesia was talking about and then record those to your comp or w/e. Or fuck it, just make a whole VHS album mix. hah

everything i've recorded in the last 2 months or so has gone straight from sp to vhs. it dirties up the sound a little, kind of 'blurs' it. if i'm mixing dig and analog samples it makes it a little less-noticable.
