Ive been looking on ebay for a few weeks now, waiting for that good deal or bid that i can hop on into and screw someone over at the last minuute but it aint been working out. Ive seen so many 2000xl's get to the last few days at about 400 bucks(bid) then in the last few minutes, jump to like 600 bucks. People are really paying 600 dollars for this thing. I understand its vintage and all but the mpc 1000 is the same dam thing, with different bit rates and sound quality. Quality dont cost 2-300 bucks. It just boggles my mind. I see a bunch of buy it now prices like 700 and 800 bucks. I think people are just trying to cash in on the VINTAGE-ness of those boxes. A weird phenomenon.
Ill get one soon enough or ill give up and get another 1000.

That's only for bare bones mpc1000...an mpc1000 with the OS upgrades and all the dressings usually run around a grand

also lot of mpc users will tell you, myself included, that the 2kxl is prob the best of the bunch...the 4000 and up models obviously have more functionality but the 2kxl is just a legendary box, pretty much perfection if you ask me. I think 1000's without JJOS2 are trash and I hate 2500s, mad clunky

Well i got a 1000 before with all the trimmings for about 500 with the shipping.
I hadnt used a 2000xl and something told me that the 1000, although cool as fuck, wasnt as cool as the 2000xl. A whole bunch of extra unnecessary functions that you cant help but use since they are there. 4 outs for what, 2 midi ports n shit. Thats why im trying to finally get my hands on a XL. it'll work out someday. Guess everyone knows how good they are.

Thas a pretty good price for a JJOS2 fully loaded 1K. I am with you as far as the extras being unnecessary. Thats what I was saying bout the higher end mpc models like the 4K. It's just overkill. I got my 2kxl for like 500 bucks dont' remember exactly but 500-700 dollars is a pretty fair range depending on the condition of the unit and whether it has extras like a CF/SD card port, 8 outs, RAM upgrades etc...the outs can be really helpful if you have a mixer, the mixer in the mps is nice but being able to EQ/compress and effect tracks in the sequence in 8 separate groups is powerful...this all again goes back to what your goals and interests are, some people just like one tracking in SPs without mixing at all, so that prob sounds gay to them

i've contemplated getting a 2000xl for a moment, and what i preferred in it that the 1000 does not provide is a directer interface. This is what i heard at least. More submenu diving in the 1000 and very little in the 2000xl.
Maybe people are going back to more hands on, direct interfaces, as opposed to more computery experience and that's what's raising the prices.

I think the prices are more related to the nostalgia and hype around the box that you mentioned earlier. People think if they get it that they will sound like Kev Brown right away or Jai Su or whoever else they saw using the box on youtube. There is def a lot of hype and legend surrounding this MPC more than the others in the fleet and people grasshopping into the art jump on that...but it's much like with the SPs, it's mostly a revolving marketplace b/c the majority of those peeps get it and realize it won't make them sound like Kev Brown b/c they don't have talent and/or work ethic to hone talent, so they just sell it back. Regardless the demand is higher b/c of the hype and therefore the price

Yes, no menu diving..everything you need to do has a direct command on the main sequencer screen. anything you need to tweak more in depth you simply move the cursor over that part and hit 'open window' and with one button push you are as deep as you'll get into menu diving

i had one i found on craigslist a few months back in a town like 3 hours from me, that i happened to be going to that weekend for some work related shit, and it was priced at 500 i think, so i called the number, and the kid had just sold it a few days earlier, ended up only gettin fuckin 350 for it, so i start chattin him up about it, and he said he got it from a friend that owed him money, and he had some other "beatbox" before it and really wanted to get down with the 2000xl but "it didn't have any sounds in it" and he had know idea how to use it, i was like well yo, you gotta sample sounds into it, like off of records and shit, you know, and he had no idea what i was talkin about, its a goddamn shame, that one shoulda been mine

MPC 2000XLs are mostly collectors items now. Some people collect obsolete computer parts nowadays.

For beat making I'll recommend the 1000 myself because its 10x better than the 2000XL not to mention more memory and CF reader. The 2000XL only comes with 4MB stock and a zip drive that costs $300 to replace everytime it breaks down.

The 2000XL is a classic if you got the dough to maintain it but financially speaking the 1000 is the wise choice.

I wouldn't say they are collectors items. I was recently at a 215 Hip Hop Beats and Rhymes showcase in Philly featuring 4 producers with more noteworthy catalogs than anyone on this board and 3 of them use mpc2000xl. the other was on an mpc4000

the stock memory and card reader issues are moot b/c it's easy to find units with full RAM upgrade and both CF/SD card slots

also a stock mpc1k is pretty much trash, those things are unusable without JJOS2 imo
