serious midi keyboard question!

so i have this m audio keystudio, and i remember seeing a while back a video of someone playing on one of these but they had literally cut it in half. it was a 49 key but they took it apart and were only using like not even half of it. my question is, how can i do that? i mean are there circuits to be messed with or did this guy literally just cut it in half

I think what they did is just pulled half of the keys out of it, if I'm thinking of the same guy. - the case + electronics stayed the same but they had attached a button/knob controller in the place of half the keys i think

ahh ok gotcha. damn i wish there was a way to just cut off the entire other side
