Battle #86

Post by blavatsky »

Main Sample - Poverty's Paradise by the 24K black. A great soul track with a lot of sample possibilities (pretty sure several rappers have already used it).
Can't wait to hear what you guys do with it :)

Drum Sample - I recorded my home kit with single shots at the beginning, a few short breaks at the end...I included a lot of long decay cymbal domes for something a little different to use, as well as toms. The breaks are a little sloppy and nothing fantastic, just trying to do some stuff that may be useful/easy to chop up. These drums are DRY - there is some EQ and compression for levels but I purposefully left these mostly natural sounding so you guys could effect them as you wanted.

Since i'm posting this late Sunday, battle should run from tomorrow (March 28th) for a week.

Thanks!

Hey whats up, ive been lurkin on here for a while but havent signed up or anything due to my current lack of any of the sp's. but i was lookin through the battles and i really liked these samples so i decided to use em with some software. i dont intened to submit this for the poll or anything since i didnt follow like the main rule, i just thought itd be kinda lame if i just used the samples and didnt share what i did.

How the hell don't I know about this song?lol..Haven't done the research on it yet, but I'll probably feel like an idiot after I do.Beautiful song, and just the type of soul I like fucking with nowadays-the darker sounding stuff. Never had some live kits in a battle that I've seen either, really dope Blav. I've been trying to resist the temptation of the battles recently,'cause it's been sucking too much time out of working on my couple projects I got going, but I may have to get down on this. If not, I'm def gonna save this song & drums.

Yep,idiot status confirmed- as someone that's got some pretty extensive crate knowledge, I have no idea how I don't know about not only this song, but the group 24 Carat Black. They've been sampled by everyone from Naughty By Nature, to Rza, to Jake One,and mad other cats. Lol,Gotta step my shit up!Really ill choice though Blav.

appreciate the comments a.d...yeah I had not heard of them either, I think I found the album on a site called milk crate breaks, guy has some fantastic vinyl ripped to mp3 but not sure if the site is still up. EVERY song on that album is pretty great, it was hard to pick one.

Edit: i'm with you on these battles sucking up your time; they are alot of fun but I lose track of my others songs i'm working on :)
