hello all, im new to the forums, im from uk and just got one of these babies
question 1, how do i sample a pattern so i can use that sampled pattern in another pattern, and edd even more sounds to it, so ineffect i could keep doing this thus making the polyphonic unlimited
question 2, how do i copy a pattern to another pad, then edit only that copyed pattern?
thanks inadvance guys, currently i have a qy100 and a korg microx and of course the sp404, if the above questions are possible, ineffect i will no longer need the qy100 for sequencing, i could sell and buy a decent mic for my sp404
1) Not sure that you can 'sample' a pattern - you could record it out and then sample that back in maybe? A bit long-winded, though.
2) I'm fairly sure (not near my sp at the moment) that you copy the pattern the same way as copying a sample.
So, say the pattern is on Pad 9 and you wanted to copy it to pad 10, you'd press Func+1, then select Pad 9, then select Pad 10 (destination pad), then "rec" to copy. Then edit away on the new pattern.
Polyphonic is 12 samples in Mono, I think, so there's plenty of scope for overlaying sounds.
yeah being able to copy patterns like described above depends on whether you have the SX or the OG 404, the SX copies like that, but there is a bit more complex, but still fairly simple method to do it on the OG, just search for the FlyLo pattern copy trick, maybe somebody else could be kind enough to link to an appropriate thread........but you got the qy for sequencing, so what I would do is create sequences on that, and resample them while they are playing, and just give some thought on what I want for variations and what I want to be able to drop out, and how I want to do it, so for example, you could come up with a drum pattern, resample it, its on one pad, now you maybe you got a shaker you want to have doin some swinging 8th notes pattern kinda thing, sequence that up, resample, then maybe do a new sequence that lays that full chunk of shaker over the drums, then you could use the 404 track mute trick (isolator or subsonic effect with certain effect parameters will 'mute' pads, then just ride the remain button to use it for different pads.........
wait can you resample a qy100 sequence while its running like you resample live unquantized pad smashing play?? i've never used an external sequencer, so maybe i'm just dreamin about what i'd do with it, but basically i would bounce smaller complicated parts of the whole out so that they were single pads, then make new sequences with those bigger parts, just give some thought into what you can combine, and what you would wanna keep seperated, and get down with it!!!
