ok im not a computer hipster or anything, i smashed my laptop and now im paying the price, I had to build a computer from scrap parts of a bunch of broken computers in my basement, the specs are 200 mhz 64 mb ram and a 3.2 gb hard drive.

the upsides. no more wasting time watching videos .

I can clean my house and read while my files process, ( takes on average 20-30 minutes to load a 45 minutes radio show, and a nother 20 to save it.)

the oldschool keyboard feels awesome the keys bounce, and i can type real fast and feel like neo from the matrix.

HAHAHAH!! While I can see the upsides to ghettoputing I have to work on a comp like that at work sometimes and it drives me insane! Though those old keyboards are pretty badass. It's like typing on a trampoline for your fingers. And man, the internet is just loads (no pun intended) of fun on that thing - I feel like its gonna crash every time I open a page.

Way to look on the bright side of things though man, you may be on your way to enlightenment now that you have stepped back in the computing ways.

I'm at a state with my laptop that any time it gets unplugged it dies instantly, and that's always a nice time to take a break and step outside hah

It's ideal for a midi sequencer ,just midi and control the hardware...the best usage for a computer!No wasting time finding the best software synths,plugins etc..!

Don't even get me started on vintage computing!

The operating systems weren't complete bloatware (ie: you use pretty much every feature it offers instead of it offering a million features and glossy icons). Also you'll be pretty much invincible to all modern viruses!

It would be interesting to score a old school Atari ST computer with some old school music software, just to make tunes like alot of the 80s & 90s classics. True, there's many computers that can run circles against that setup, but wouldn't it be fun to live with the limits?

Alec Empire still uses an Atari ST for a lot of his sequencing. Okay not the best example. I know Dabrye uses some vintage computer setup and a tracker (Renoise is a modern example) to make most of his tracks. His live show is kind of kooky for that reason:

Look for a text only internet browser...lynx is great, but I'm not sure if it works on windows...makes the Internet experience a bit bland, but it is fucking fast.

daem dude that is gangster! i thought mine was shitty. the one in my room gots 40gb of hardrive and 128mb of ram. used to have a ginormous monitor for it too till one of my homies gave me flat lcd he's not using. gotta love those clackity-clack keyboards! what OS are you using for that?

ive increasingly grown impatient using that computer. trying to run programs on it sucks! suuuuper slow. its only good for light internet browsing. it even struggles trying to load a youtube video. it still works fine tho and i can still use it for its hard drive space.

Ya'all should get an older version of Linux (Slackware, Redhat, etc) if you're running Windows currently. It'll take some getting used to but they perform a lot better on older machines.
