Myth! Being in a tiny car with the windows rolled up and the heat on, smokin a blunt. truth. Saying you got high cause you were in a room with people smokin weed is like saying you got drunk sitting in a bar not drinking. Has to be al lot of weed to fill a room with enough weed smoke to get you a contact high.

Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
i will disagree all day long. long time smoker long time quitter. i was high as hell the last time i was in a room with 5 people smoking.
Saying you got high cause you were in a room with people smokin weed is like saying you got drunk sitting in a bar not drinking.
smokes in the air. that would be like sitting in a room full of vodka vapor and getting drunk. could happen.

Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
Actually it would be more like being at a party and bobbing for apples in a bucket of vodka. Of course it's not a myth-you're still inhaling the smoke-obviously it depends on how much smoke is in whatever closed area you're in and the size of the area...but all people have different levels of tolerance.
Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
I think to a certain extent the memories triggered of being high can be 'experienced' although its not really the same..
an example of this is if I reminisce about some of my acid trips.. I start to feel a little like I'm tripping.. I dont hallucinate like crazy or anything..
This is because memories have feelings attached with them - and people are able to cause feelings by their own thoughts.. ( I'm thinking about girls.. huh now im depressed!)
Now obviously your brain can't release LSD to create the effect, but it will be trying to mimick the memory as best it can using the endogenous neurotransmitters/etc..
Like with E - if I hear this one particular song that reminds me of my first time. I start shaking uncontrollably and get little serotonin rushes...
This links back to meditation and 'controlling your body' stuff - alot of people think it is nonsense, but if you stop and think, of course your brain has control over your body - I think, and my tongue moves! - given that other systems are all just physical machines attached to the mental computer, it is sometimes possible to train yourself to consciously control normally subconscious bodily functions. (such as ramping up the body's temperature/metabolism)

Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
perfect explanation cartesia. It does depend on the size of the room and the amount of smoking. Blunts and dutches make way more smoke and fill a room a lot more. but if your smokin bowls, gotta be a lot of bowls packed and bong riffs to get the air filled up, windows closed, towel under the door, heat on.
Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
its true, its happened to me plenty of times at my friends house. ur still inhaling the smoke, so its possible, it would be extremely hard to get contact high if you were outside of course cuz the outside isnt closed off lol. from my experience, i can only get contact high if im getting hotboxed
Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
I think added to all that, subconsciously some people kind of get on the same level with everyone else in the room who is high. They start thinking like it, their body starts to feel it, etc.

Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
The same happens with EX, i always got body buzzes because everyone else was rolling and i was too broke to afford a pill, just hung out and tried to get the chicks to rub up on me, like rawlr! Its a mind thing, but i guess if you smoked weed like "none times" in your life and hang in a room full of blunt smoke, anything can happen.
Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
Your lungs absorb 99% of the THC from ganja in the first second that your inhale. So, maybe if there's a lot of smoking going on and you have no tolerance, you could get a contact high. A lot of times it's just the emotions and the way people are acting that influence it though, I think. I'm sure it's possible to be legitimately high from just contact, but there would have to be LOTS of smoke and some help from your brain.
Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
I think you got that mixed up, it means that your lung capillaries absorb 99% of what they are going to absorb from a given hit in the first second the smoke is in the lungs - therefore long periods of holding in are not really helping you get more high, the surface gets quickly saturated with smoke. My wife gets super ripped off second hand bonghits, of course I'm blowing it right into her mouth but what I'm sayin is that the exhaled smoke is still potent so of course you can get a contact high depending on space/ventilation blah blabh blahgroktopus wrote:Your lungs absorb 99% of the THC from ganja in the first second that your inhale. Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
From Wikipedia,
"Contact high is a phenomenon that sometimes occurs in otherwise sober people and animals who come into contact with someone who is under the influence of drugs. It involves a supposed transfer of the psychological state of highness. A glossary of drug users' language from the 1970s describes the term as "a psychogenic 'trip' without taking drugs by being close to somebody while he is on drugs. It is incorrect to use it for the high obtained by inhaling the smoke of other marijuana smokers"

Re: CONTACT HIGH? TRUTH OR MYTH?
Hmm that makes sense, I thought I remembered reading differently but I don't have the info on hand. I guess it just depends on the first hitters lungs haha. My 2nd hand smoke probably doesn't enlighten anyone.I think you got that mixed up, it means that your lung capillaries absorb 99% of what they are going to absorb from a given hit in the first second the smoke is in the lungs - therefore long periods of holding in are not really helping you get more high, the surface gets quickly saturated with smoke.
