sp-555 freezes on power up with cf card inserted

hey guys,

first post - am new to the roland sp family. have been having heaps of fun with it over the past fortnight using internal memory. yesterday i bought a cf card so i could start using wave converter to plan a live show but whenever i power up it goes through the roland intro and then the '555' bit but freezes on the first '5'

i'm not sure it's happening. it's the right type of memory card and i've inserted it the whole way and replaced the memory card cover. if i take it out the sp-555 works fine again but continues to freeze whenever the memory card is inserted.

any help would be much appreciated.

I'm using three 2GB Sandisk Ultra II 15MB/s with my SP-555 and they work great. Had problems with a 1GB Dane-Elec card with the SP-404.

has anyone gotten any information on this '5'? I have a Dane-Elec 2 GB that I bought, is the 1 GB works why shouldn't the 2 GB?

This is the most frustrating thing.. JAMedia works (I have one) but the only place to get one around here is at guitar center. And they sold me the 1st one for $70, I'm not trying to do that again. But what if I buy something off the internet that doesn't work?

Anyways... What exactly does the '5' mean?

Mine doesn't exactly freeze on the first five. It get's halfway through and then a brighter 5 comes up. It could be an S for all I know.

Hi guys, I tried SanDisk Ultra (2 GB), and my SP-555 freezed. I guess I'll have to look for an Ultra II.

...And then I updated to v.1.04. It seems to be working now! So first update, then format your disk
