thick sound

ive been trying to get sounds out of my tape deck
and importing them into a computer with a E-MU 0202 USB interface
but it ends up sounding too too crunchy

and also. having problems recording into stereo.

yeah, you might have to re-master them tracks. Thats a good thing tho because now you can compress em all to the same level and bring out some of the highs. If it sounds different digitally than on the tape when you play it, maybe something is going on with the emu, try recording something from a cd or something to see if you get the same effect.
p.s.- crunch is good, ex. captain crunch, crunch berries, peanut butter crunch!

some tape recorders only do mono/left channel recording. All tape decks have different sounds too, my onkyo sounds mad warm, my radio shack recorder sounds like icicles. some don't capture low end very well and you get a muddy mix
