Anybody used to drink heavily and don't anymore? If so, how's life? I feel like it's creeping up on me...

you're way too talented to get wasted on alc man... it's the most dangerous drug beside heroin for a reason... it's hard to fight it on your own, possibly too hard. it's a sign of strength to accept help man... you might wrote this in a real downer moment, you already might regret but to me this just shows your 'cry' for help... we're not the persons that could though...
you're a good man, deserving a good life... all you need to do is to take a helping hand! An addiction often is connected with some mental prolems too, so this could be quit a journey but who doesn't love travelling...

if you wanna talk any further, you could pm me any time.... stay strong man! alcohol is the liquid devil...

i'm also down to video-battle you one more time... ;)

Thanks G! I've always known it's a problem, just from time to time I wonder how it would change me if I stopped. My girlfriend and I were talking about it just because she wants to stop as part of her diet. She doesn't care what I do. I don't really overdo it like I used to, but nowadays instead of getting me drunk it just makes me lose my memory, which is weird. Ironically I think it would be better for my memory if I switch to herb full-time hehe. But thanks for the kind words mang................ LET'S BATTLE!!! (as soon as I get a moment away from school that is  )

if you smoke a bunch of weed at first to overcompensate for being used to the intoxication you will get thru it easier...then you can taper off the weed more, but I really don't think being a regular weed smoker is NEARLY as bad as drinking so cutting back on the tree is optional

seriously tho once you cut the booze out you will sleep less, wake up more energetic and have better sex no doubt

alcohol fucks everything up its the worst by far imo

Thanks for posting this Kel, you got me thinking too. I think it's in all our best interest to cut back or give up drinking. All it really does is create more anxiety in the long run - and we end up drinking more trying to get rid of it. I'll definitely use this thread as inspiration.

Kel its good that BOTH you and your girl are cutting back/quitting drinking. It should make things a bit easier, and you can take pride in knowing that you can help her along with helping yourself.

yes totally. I stopped drinking the hard shit (the two of us were killing about 750ml every 1 1/2 days of vodka) altogether a couple weeks ago, and have noticed that I feel more with it and less lazy. I love beer, but one turns into 7 or 8 way too fast. for now i'm gonna try a glass or two of red wine per night just to get me sleepy and smoke a little more weed... I only go through about an 8th per month anyway. time to switch it up :)

yea man wine is good for that. you really don't wanna keep drinkin all night when you sippin wine...mostly tho I'd say try to cut out the drinkin completely on at least 5 nights a week asap...you prob gonna need to take L's to the head the first week or two at night...once I finished college I realized I drank way too often and went thru this same thing...now I prob drink one night a week if that, and I never really get "drunk" anymore except some nights in the studio when it gets out of hands with the homies, then when I wake up the next morning I feel so shitty I don't do that again until its been long enuff to forget how much it sucked...either way good luck man

oh demon alcohol, almost killed me, put me in prison, lost countless jobs , girlfriends, friends, thanks goodness im sober now, for the most part, still smoke like crazy till its gone but its the lesser of the two evils, i think anyway. just remember how shitty you feel when your hung over or, the stupid things you do when your drunk to help you keep off the fire water.

peace and good luck. remember

easy does it .

I used to drink a lot. A 6 pack or more a day easily. Now I've got it down to one 16oz or 24oz can of beer. I feel a lot better drinking less, but I still want to stop entirely. I hate the feeling of "needing" to drink everynight. I've also cut way back on the gerbals too. I was going through like an eighth or more a week and now I spend about $10-$15 a week on it. The bad thing is that smoking less has actually caused me to start smoking cigs :( Although it's only like 1 cig a day, mainly just to fight boredom at work I still don't want to smoke at all. For some reason I think this is something a lot of us younger people go through. When you are told not to do something for 21 years it's natural to go overboard with it for awhile. The good thing is that you realize it can't go on forever and you need to make some changes in your life.

Northwest winters are always hard too. When it rains almost everyday there's not much else to do besides drink like a fish.

Yeah man, I also smoke a cig a night. Only one tho, compared to back in the day when I used to do a pack a day easily. I'm putting my foot down on this drinking shit, starting last night... only a lil wine until I don't feel like I need it. gettin a sack tonight yeeeeee!
Fortunately I love cold gloomy shitty weather, so Seattle is an ideal environment :)
In fact I moved out of LA because of the monotonous heat.

I'm starting to learn that drugs/alcohol can be fun, until you're the one always spending money on them. Once the fun is over, you say to yourself "Dang, there was X amount I could have invested in my studio, paid a bill with, or just saved in the bank!". That's one reason I don't go out as much anymore. I've given up weed while I'm looking for work (because I want to be ready if I get UA'd), but I was letting a buddy smoke me out with his generosity all the time. Now I just let him spend it on himself, and I don't worry about it for now.

As far as walking away/trying to quit a substance. It's hard, especially when you have people around you doing it and trying to tempt you. If that's not the problem, is it's all around you. Every grocery store, every corner market, or just a call away to somebody that always hooked you up. Just stay strong, and say to yourself "I don't need it", and after awhile, it will get easier. If it's still not working (you keep slipping) then there's probably a AA meeting you could look up on the net and maybe that will help you. Good luck.
