Seems to be more interesting then the 'how old are you' thread.

7 years ago I got my first drum machine and turntables. The first time I touched the wheels of steel is about 8-9 years ago .

I bought an mpc 60II in 2003 then sold it for some rent money, then I bought my 303 in 2004 and have used that since. So 4 years.

I've been dabbling around with sequencers (roland w-30) since '91 or something.

First played a bit with Amiga 500 & soundtracker. Then I got tables and a mixer around 2000 (after dreaming about it for 10 years or so). I've had a 404 about a year now. I also do quite a lot of scratching. I just don't have the skill or patience to compose real songs, it's mostly one pattern and then jam over it!

Depends what you mean with 'music' hahahaha. I've been messing around with DOS programs like FastTracker and so on when I was 10 or so, but it also took quite a while before anything not-embarrassing came out of my speakers back then...

As for what I'm doing right now, that's basically going on since early 2000 or so, so I guess it's about 8 years now.

I was primarily a rapper first, I've been freestyling and writing raps for as long as I can remember. In about 9th grade I decided to start making beats because no one else i knew was, and I got sick of spitting over stolen instrumentals. Now my primary focus is on the beats, as my production skills are surpassing my lyrical ability.

about 7 years. I got into DJing/tablism in 2000. Then I got into production in 02. I had found a 303 on scratch n dent sale for $250!! and after using it for a while I thought it was wak and I got reason then made beats on that for a little while. Then added live...then got an MPC2k and then realized that I didnt like it so went back to software and then my computer crashed and I busted out my old 303 realized I was sleeping on it and then I got a 404 and then a 505 then back to the 404 and now 404 and 555 + EPS and im good :)

Got into tracking (fast tracker 2) in 95. Mostly techno stuff at the time.
Bought myself a roland keyboard to play blues and jazz piano in 97.
Then I got crazy about hip hop and sampling, bought myself an akai S20 in 98.
Then I started playing the trumpet in 2000. I got ill because of it (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease), enough to stop it and go back to keyboards and samplers.
Started the guitar a few months ago.

So its been 12 years...

Since '89 or '90 (I can't remember - there's been a lot of raves since then lol).

First C-64 and hexadecimal programming, then the Amiga like a few more on here (Amiga FTW!). Didn't get any 'real' hardware until about 99/2000. Got into playing at clubs/raves (with a partner) around 2001, right up until the end of last year (2006). Now I'm working solo again and trying to find my own unique sound

I started as a rapper in 1990, writing rhymes and trying to scratch on a Sears belt drive turntbale and then i got into punk rock and started playing drums in 93, and taught myself guitar and started writing songs after that. I started woriking with loops and samples when i got a used sp 202 in like 2001, but i really got hardcore into beat based production when I got my 404 which was back in like March or so.

it all started about eight years ago with thrift store diving! getting numerous speakers, recievers boom boxes. i got a technics(which i sold later for rent money) and just started coppin records at one point had about 700. i eventually got a sp-505. but then a tornado wind storm thing hit my house. lots of records were ruined or stolen later by the crackheads on our block cuz the power was out 4 weeks.

anyway i gave my 505 to my bro and was done.

a little of two years ago i ended up in japan and started to get into making sounds again.

I'm a member of this group called 64MULA, we play stuff from real c-64's. First it was playing old game musics with 2 x c-64 and a mixer but now we play tunes by my friend. Also added electric drums + my scratching & 404 on our live stuff.

http://www.myspace.com/64mula <- there's not any new stuff there, no scratching, no drumming, no 404 but you can watch a demo made on a real 64 with my mates music, and also hear other tunes by him.

Still a big fan of Commodore 64 & other old computers...
