Is The Memory Card Really Neccessary?

i just copped an sp 505 from ebay and wanted to know if the card was really necessary, is it like the 404, where the other banks arent usable until you get a memory card?? i just ordered it today. any info is appreciated thanks.

well, the card is necessary if you want to stock or upload samples...
if you don't have it you can always use the first 16 banks (actually the first 4 are always occupied by the boss samples, and no way to erase them, so you can use 16-4=12 banks in total...); a way to transfer samples without the card is also with digital out (or also the analog out obviusly), but this is not really "trasferring", but....

i was confused about whether any 3.3 v card would work and oddly enough on one of the last pages of reviews someone mentioned that they used this card with their boss sp 505 and worked perfectly.
