Hi, everybody! :)

I am sitting down with my 303 and testing out the different effects. And i was wondering if there is some kind of list or something that explains what the the different effects are traditionally use for? For example, i have been told that the distortion can be used for the kicks, like to give it more power behind it. And you can use the isolation effect to give the loop more of a bassline. Every effect has to be there for a reason, i think. :)

There ha to be some kind of a list of it. Dont you think?
I have been searching for this information for some time now, but i have found nothing.

If anybody have the time and knowledge to share their wisdom with us other sp-freaks, i, and many others i think, would be very greatful for that information.

Ps. If everybody can share their tips with us others, maybe we can put this thread up permanently so newcommers can look up the use effects if they get stuck with their work? I would sure need that. :)

I didnt know where to put this thread. Sorry. If it would go up to the "303 tips n tricks"? If i placed it in the wrong forum i apologize and you can put it where you think it should be.

Ps 2. Sorry for my bad english. I am very tired right now, and my english gets worse when i am tired. So if you cant understand something i wrote here you can come in contact with me, if you have any questions or something you can send me a message.

Good night. Greetings from Sweden. /F.

I have been think about this also, making some kind of a pdf / book about the "Secret Technologies" of the sp series, well, any production on any machine. I know some producers hide there secrets (Im looking RIGHT in your face Danger Mouse) but here everyone is open about their production tech. It is mostly just going through the "Production Technics" section on the forum as well as the machine sections of this forum. Possibly breaking down the production tech in sections by machine. Just a thought...

I don't think it's that deep...

For example the distortion trick on a kick is not an SP trick. That is a general mixing trick...distortion tears up the harmonics/adds crunch so you can compress heavily and get a fat sound without too sharp of an attack. Similarly, the low pass (isolator) trick to pull out basslines is old school and common knowledge pretty much...my advice is to do some serious research about mixing...picking the brain of someone knowledgeable is the best, but the information is all there on the net. You can learn little tricks but you won't really unlock the power until you understand effects and mixing on a more basic level.

I tried to search google websites about mixing, but i dint find anything good really.
Does anybody know a good site about the basics of mixing music?

I dont either think its that deep, but there are many many effects, and i think that every effect has a purpose. Like the "ring mod" and the "noise gen", and others.

I am sorry that my english is a little bad, or "knagglig" as we say in Sweden. :) I hope everybody understads what i have written.

/H.

Word up..no problem. Actually your english is not that bad...I totally understand everything you are typing so don't worry bout it too much.

There are indeed many effects and the net can be difficult...sometimes Google doesn't give you good results at first but you have to keep trying diff search phrases.

There is really no single website that is comprehensive...if you are the type that can read a book and absorb the info that way the book "The Art Of Mixing" is available on the net in PDF format. It is good as a reference for example to look up an effect really quick and try to understand what it's all about...but you can do that on Google...just narrow your searches...you won't get much useful sites searching "mixing"...you need to search more specific like "distortion on drums" or "ring modulator and sampling" etc etc...search for one specific thing at a time and build up all the info
