I haven't be around here a lot lately (busy work schedule) but I wouldn't mind to contribute with a little beat. Just to show that the forum of the simple boxes can do what the MPC forums took 5 years to do; coin up the idea of a mixtape
and just do it. No bullshit gangsta bigmouthing and/or endless yapping about overpriced recording software, just making beats.

@Jay: A 404 beat on the MPC mixtape; the irony :-)

If you wanna have a good laugh .. go check it out. Lots of silly negativity over there. A lot of not so happy people too, quite some problems with their MPCs so it seems.

STILL ... there's also people there like Boondoc (search youtube) able to flip really insane beats out of his MPC, so... it's not all bad over there.

My biggest gripe with the MPC is the sound. I just dont dig the sound at all...thats why I sold mine... Its a great machine..but now that ive really learned lots of other gear I realize it really shines as a sequencer and thats about it... it can do the other stuff and do it well but most other gear outshines its sampling abilities.

I think the MPCs generally are great, but a bit overpriced for what you get compared with SPs feature/price-wise so to say. I don't think either of them is 'better' although the sequencing ability of an MPC probably is a better indeed.

Two reasons why I can't wait for a future SP 707 to arrive ideally combining a good quality sequencer and sampler workstation with a very nice price. ;)

I'm down. My Bassist, too. That is if we're not too 'rock' or whatnot. We're writing a song now that I think would be perfect. Lots of 404 rocking, plus turntables and Bass. All live too, no patterns. Of course, I'm probably going to take the drums into my computer to edit, so that'll really be the only pre-sequenced part.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I really love 404, and I love how great it is to use as a live instrument. We'd probably fall into the 'diverse' category on the mixtape.

I'm 'bout to make something new for this. You have so many songs on your soundclick Dj Frantic, but I'll see which songs I like the most.

this is a dope idea. i think the only rule should be that you use an sp as your main piece on the track. i dabble in the visual arts so i'll work on some cover ideas, not that we have to use them. once we get to battle 12 or so we should put out a battle champions compilation too.
