I'm thinking about giving a name to the editor.
I want something unique, not the average "SP-x0x Editor" thing.
My current candidate is "BankRobber". I don't know if it's too pejorative or not, but kind of describes the mentality of what it does

Alright we are getting closer here are some new screenshots.

Added browse for sample, with location bookmarking, and it opens with last used location.
Saving and loading whole banks, useful for drumkits and sets.
You can clear whole banks with one click and drag and drop or open samples.
Also experimented with the pattern data.

All I need now is a bit of testing and probably I can release a beta in the middle of the week..

Right now it is for the SX. But I think I can easily extend it to the other machines, I need to dig into the RDAC audio file format bacause this is what the SP-s used prior the SX. Other than that I think the basic pattern and bank data formats are quite similar however I will need some sample files since I don't have those machines.

Here's a list of test files I need:
- empty all banks and place just one sample in the first bank, create a simple pattern with this one sample playing at each quarter, save the card content
- empty all banks, place one sample at the first pad of each, save the card content

Zip these and upload somewhere and link it.

You get the idea, create as many simple test cases as possible, but carefully describe what you put in those, SP type, pattern layout, bank layout etc.

I think sp303 and 404 will be quite easy to reverse engineer, the 505 may be a bit more complex, since it has bank names, pattern tracks, mutes etc.
Luckily I have access to the 505 so don't bother with that.

So focus on the 303 and 404 and we're on our way...

A little update that might interest some 404SX users:

I managed to decode the backup file format, so now we can browse the backup binaries on the computer listen to the samples etc.
