question about four tet...

Post by marcus »

i know he's a sp user, but does he make all of his music on the sp? is ALL of his music sample-based, or does he play live instruments as well?

he uses (in the past) cool edit and audio mulch but when he got to doing his thing with steve reid (rip) he got heavy into sp's i think hes always had a 303 and theres a youtube of him talking about how much he loves it...

i know ive seen a live drum kit in his set up... cuz of the other band "fridge" he started in... but i think he played guitar... although i may be wrong cuz ive never got that deep into that band..

yep, he's pretty big on audiomulch... even before the sp I think.
I played with the demo for a while, but now my (unregistered) copy starts talking through everything, and I'm too cheap atm to fork out for the licence (190 dollars).

if you're into the experimental unpredictable thing, you should check it out, you can create really cool (non-linear!) stuff in it.

audiomulch is super cool, but i haven't used it in a long time...my version loox really old skool (maybe it still does?).

fourtet does play instruments, but i donno how accomplished he is. that stuff ^^ with steve reid had them each improvising on various instruments, then sampling the results.

i've seen fourtet live, and he played everything off of a laptop.

donno if that helps.

He plays live off a laptop but uses the SP for effects from what I could see in pictures..

I think in the studio he just uses the 303 to sketch out rough ideas.. I watched a studio interview/thing in future music with him and he had all his raw instrument playing/final tracks recorded to DAT
Samples.
