Doesn't work here i don't know how to set the midi channels from the sp-404 and padKONTROL. can't find it in the sp-404 manuel hmmmz

can you explain it in steps for me?

so when it works can you drums on your sp-404 through the padKONTROL?

This is really interesting cartesia, you might have to post a video lol

Is there another benifit to using the padkontrol other than the pads?

OK here we go.. no video but here's the step by step:

Before we get started you need to determine if you are running from a power supply (switch set to "DC" on the back of the PK) or if you are running from USB (switch set to USB).

Power supply is required for non-computer use. (this is how I use it)

If you are using USB, you need to set up a midi routing in a daw or other midi routing application/utility.
EG: Padkontrol input needs to be routed to Padkontrol midi out Port.

Then you just put the midi cable in the midi OUT of the padkontrol, and in the midi IN of the 404.

now setting up the PK:

#1

Hold down pad 1 while you turn on your SP-404. This will set it's midi channel to 1.

#2

Press 'setting' on the padkontrol and then press 'all pad' (the 'prog change' button)
.. this means youre setting the settings for all of the pads at once.

#3

Press 'MIDI CH' and turn the dial until it is set to '1'. All pads are now set to the same midi channel as the 404.

#4

While still in 'all pad' selection.. press 'note/CC#'. turn the dial so that it is set to 'b2'.. There is one thing to note about this.. it might actually need to be b1 or b3 or b4 or something.. the padkontrol for some reason may be offset.. I'm doing this by memory.. anyway.

#5

Make sure you have a sample on pad 1 on the 404. Press one of the PadKontrol pads - if it plays the sample, you have it set right. If it doesn't, go back to 'all pad' mode, and choose a different octave B. eg b1 or b3 or b4.. continue until you've got it.

#6

At the moment all pads are set to play pad 1 on the 404. to leave 'all pad' mode, just press the 2nd pad on the padkontrol, and set its note to 1 above b2 (c3). Then go to the next pad and set it to one above that (C sharp 3 - the sharp symbol looks like an 'o' if i remember correctly). then the next pad to the next one, etc etc...

#7
now each pad should correspond to a pad on the 404 (the first 16 pads)
Leave 'setting' mode, and hold 'scene' + press 'write' - then select the number slot to save it to and press enter..

So... I'm thinking about grabbing on of these soon for live work (so noob questions disclaimer)... if you've got your beat playing as a sample on one of the pads, are you able to record a loop over the top?

and can you switch banks without the sound cutting out too?

I basically want to play beats, jam on the pads over the top and sing through the effects. I know you can't do that all at once but are you able to layer it live?

Thanks dude.

I just borrowed a 404 from a friend to give it a go... it seems like the pads are kinda loose and probably prone to bumping and misfiring samples onstage... has anyone run into that problem using these live?

Haven't plugged it in yet, I'll let you all know how I go when I do...
