Has anyone tried this for a live set?

Recording full songs onto the 404 (OG) and playing them live while adding fx and other misc. stuff? Would this be a viable tactic for a live set? Or would it be better to just use the ext. source?

How many songs do you think the OG 404 would hold?

I ask this cause I don't have any "live" equipment like turntables etc.

my friend actually plays live with his 555 like this.. he makes all of his stuff in reason then deconstructs his stuff into chunks and loads those chunks onto the memory card... then puts the tracks back together live and adds in effects, rolls and tweaks..

My girlfriend and I did a dj set with the 404 a couple of years ago. The theme was, we would play the OG song ex. bill withers "use me up" and then halfway through the song throw some delay on the end and hit another pad, which had 'use me up' by UGK. We'd tap out the tempos beforehand and try to match them, it was fun. just be careful not to hit the pad again, or it will start over or stop depending on the loop setting. We had probably an hour's worth of stereo audio on a 1gb card, but I didn't bother to check how many minutes were left. So yeah it's definitely possible. Most of my beats I perform live with 12 pads when I play a set, so i can only play 9 songs per card, 1 per bank with 1 bank left over for little interludes so I can prepare to go into the next beat. It's convenient as hell to show up to play with just a 404 and rca cables.

I have a card with like 40 of my beats on it. I haven't done anything live yet cuz I'm still working on the set. This is really the only way I think I can do a consistent set.

SP404 for beats, turntables for fillers and a second sampler for vocal drops.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. So you have your song sliced up into 12 parts and you run through each chunk one after the other? Or have you got layers going on and you hit simultaneous pads?

its always different but i just memorize what's on what pad. so maybe i'll have 2 pads with 2 different drum patterns, maybe another pad with just the kick and another with just the snare or a fill, so that's 4 pads for drums and you can do alot with it hitting it in different combos. then pads 1-4 might have chops with bass layered, and the transition will be chops of pads 5-6, then theres still 2 left for whatever... some weird sounds to break the monotony that is compatible with both transitions, or maybe an air-horn BA BA BA BA BA BAAAAAAAAAAAA

i've been playing with a few options. so far, i'm on this...

for beat sets its ipad for loops/beats into 404 for vocal/stabs and effects.

for live tracks, its mpc for live playing, ipad for loops and 404 for extra stabs and effects.

i did try to go the ableton/launchpad route, but to be honest i just don't feel it for a live device. plus i get sacred taking my mac out.
soooooo many options when it comes to live settings, especially in electronic music, can be as complex or as simple as you want it to be.

gonna cop electrify app this weekend, clip matrix looks goooooood.

my fav way to use a 404 live was to play it with a nice pad kontrol into a KP3 so i could record loops in realtime to layer stuff up, and had 2 effect processors to use at once

Do you use a computer with the pad kontrol.

Damn i didn;t know you can do that, i'm a big noob when it's about MIDI.
How do you do that?

Hey you just plug the midi out of the padkontrol into the midi in on the 404..

then you set them to the same midi channel and set the pads on the padkontrol to send the notes that correspond to the pads on the 404 (I think it starts at B2 or A2 or something for pad 1)
