fast track pro with 404 and laptop

Post by yomtvraps »

can somebody with an m-audio fast track pro please explain to me how to record from the 404 to the computer in stereo?
So far, my set-up involved rca's plugged in to the line out on the sp-404 with a 1/4 inch converter thing attached to the opposite end which is plugged in accordingly to the two inserts on back of the fast track pro with the left rca being plugged into the left insert and vice versa. My problem is that when I record with audacity, it only picks up the right side.

Did you press the "mono/stereo" button on the front of the FastTrack Pro?

And you are using these adapters to go into the Fasttrack pro from the RCA cable?

Are you on a windows machine or a Mac?

captain crunk: did that, still didn't work.
formal: I tried it with both both mono and stereo. Didn't work. I just got one of those in the mail today. Used it on the left side and it didn't work. On the right side I was using an rca male to 1/8th in. male that was connected to an 1/8th in. female to 1/4 in. male. I'm gonna try switching sides and see what happens.

edit: windows. and switching sides just made the only audio play on the left instead of right. Also tried switching out rca's for the side that wasn't playing, nothing happened.

just realized on the side that's using the rca to 1/4 in. that if it's plugged in part of the way, it plays but it's quieter than the other side. Wrong adapter maybe?

With an insert, one channel of the "stereo" jack has the output and the other the input. Normally, the tip contact is the input, the output is on the ring and a common ground on the sleeve. So you need to use 2 insert jacks to get 2 inputs or 2 outputs.

Inserts are provided to break the normal signal path out through an external processor and back again - an FX loop if you like. The insert jack will have a switch built in which automatically breaks the normal "thru" path when you insert a plug. They can be used as extra input and output connections if you remember the fact that it's not like a normal mono or stereo connection and it breaks the normal path when you use it.

I got renoise and audacity.
Renoise had issues with recording from the fast track pro but audacity didn't.
