my bad....

Everything on the web says "analog like" filters. hahahaha. Even I bought into the hype. Thanks for the correction. You still can't deny the amazing 18bit sound of the asrx. One of a kind.

*disclaimer.... no need to make comment on shitty sequencer on the non-pro model. That's a given.

I don't know what it is with me, but my black version's sequencer was fine, but my red pro, the sequencer sucks it. I just don't know what the dealio is. I don't even bother using the sequencer on it. It has proven itself unreliable, and I will not rely on it. :)

Your black one could have the firmware upgrade. It's an actual hardware chip. On the red pro it can be updated via software from the floppy. So you should look into updating it.

My black one the sequencer will skip when I change patterns. It sounds like the machine is lagging and can't keep up.

My favorite feature on the asrx is the Scratchpad. That button is blessin :D

BTW have you updated any of the sound modules? I had a friend who was addicted to buying the sound chips. He had 2 of every one. One for his black unit and one for the Red pro.

Next sampler I want is MV8k or 8800. But my cheap/broke ass will prolly buy an SP505 :P

Back in the 90's I had the black one, but didn't really know wtf I was doing. I sold it to buy an QS8 from alesis, another one of my genius moves. Some where in the middle 00's I picked up a used red one, that was maxed, 8 out, maxed ram, and the rom expanded, with an internal zip.

I'm trying to figure out the zip situation (another of the really f'ed up studio projects going on right now). Lemme tell you youngsters, the move away from scsi and midi onto usb was a GOD SEND. It's unfortunate that we have to go back to use those antiquated protocols just to access these dope instruments.

Hit me up if you need some help in a PM. I'm old/young: 27, but I know my way around this stuff. Ironic as it sounds, but sometimes I really just like using the old tech instead of the million +1 options with todays gadgets/gear. The knowledge base is established and not going anywhere so most issues are well known.

What is the deal with the 505, it's like the dark horse (actually that is the 606, talk about a black sheep, who designed that thing, Megatron?) I can't find much info on it. Was hoping for the definitive break down on the 606 v 555 v 505. I seriously cannot buy them all to try out.

Wow! Thanks guys for checking out the Dirt Machine :) I'm glad to see it's still getting some plays and people are enjoying. The Dead Beats LP is all done with the 404, you might wanna give that album a listen too.

As for 505 vs 606, I'll write out some comparisons once I get to work.

@JBL, now that you mention that MS1 thing, I do remember the microsampler being called an MS1. You would think that a company would do some research on other samplers before naming theirs, hahahaha! Poor korg!

I'm fairly new to the 404, but if you really want to resample a pattern, couldn't you just record the pattern onto something else (multi-track, computer, other sampler?) and then record it back onto the 404 as a sample with whatever effects you want...

Yeah, I could record it back onto the computer. But then why am I on the sx to start with?

Your using the sx because you want to resample with its effects, right? So, if you can't resample a pattern, record the pattern onto another device, then bring it back onto the sx as a sample pad and resample that sample, which is really the pattern. It is not as confusing as I made it sound.

naw, I'm using it because I like making beats with it. I don't like using the computer to make beats. Ultimately I'm going to to computer as a multitrack tape machine. But I want the comp as late in the process as possible.

Is there no sp that has the abilities of the sx but can resample and overdub?
