Roland MS1 vs Yamaha SU10

Hi guys!
I'm after one of these two lil sampler to add to my set up.
I own other samplers (SP505, ST224, MPC2000xl, S900) I'd like to have one the two because of the sound, and to play with sampling from old tunes or sampling loops i've done in my computer.
I owned the SU10 in 96 and it was funny, but filter was quite creepy...
Never used the MS1 but heard somenthing done with it and it sounded to me real old skool and I liked.
Listening here and there on the web seems that the Roland has better sound but less features and Yamaha has strange and interesting features and a more "strange" sound.
The global pitch on both is somenthing could be annoying but also trippy... I'm not figuring out well.
your opinions, please!
this buy is just somenthing fun to play with, I know my set up is well filled with samplers..

Wut up, Xtal?? I own three Roland MS-1's and just recently picked up an SU-10 from eBay. From working with both exclusively this weekend, the Roland MS-1 is the better option. The mute groups are a plus, sound quality is crisp, and the memory (although difficult to find) is expandable. Personally, I could've done without the ribbon controller on the SU-10. Although it is useful, it's applied globally which isn't really beneficial. I'm currently using the SU-10 in EXLG mode for more sample time and the audio quality is pretty raw.

Aside from mute groups, ribbon filter, and expandability, they do the same thing and sound somewhat similar. Also, both units apply editing parameters globally.

the su10 is cool, but:
1)the saving is weird (never tried in reality, maybe for that reason)
2)the stereo samples are ok, but it's very limited in time
3)lo-fi samples are ok if you want lo-fi (it's not that bad "lo-fi" indeed...)
4)the "total pitch" thing is annoying
5)mini-in and mini-out jacks are not exactly cool...and for a matter of volume too...

....and
5)editing is ok
6)pitch scale is amazing (but it's not poly...)
7)filter is ok (i'm talking about stereo samples; for lo-fi samples same talking as for point 3)
it has a sort of "chop" (it's called "split")>>(it works once over ten( ))
9)you can filter or scratching external sounds
10)loop point is great (and ribbon, in this case, is nice)

@bommbap: so for you the ms1 is better...you own 3, you love it!
all in all the extra funcions on the su don't make the difference for you.
does the ms1 sound similar to the sp202(without efx)?

The SP-202's Standard Mode sounds a lot like the MS-1's Long 1 Mode, as they are in the same kHz range. I've included the sampling grades/frequencies for both the SP-202 and the MS-1 that I found in the manuals.

Boss SP-202 Sampling Grades:
Hi- Fi: 31.25 kHz
Standard: 15.63 kHz
Lo-Fi 1: 7.81 kHz
Lo-Fi 2: 3.91 kHz

Roland MS-1 Sampling Grades:
High: 32.07 kHz – 44.1 kHz
Standard: 23.27 kHz – 32 kHz
Long 1: 22.05 kHz – 16.04 kHz
Long 2: 11.64 kHz – 16 kHz

I think I'll go for the MS1!
SP202 are quite expensive here in Italy, they go for 100 euro or more and imho is a quite high price for that sampler without the card.
Formo the specs the MS01 seems basic (speaking of functions) , good sounding but nasty!
Do you use it for a particular task (vocal samples, drums..)?

RP can you do that on ms1: moving/tweaking start+end point while the sampler is played by external sequencer (example : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIfq7Jd7sik)? i do that on the remix16 very easly...

@ Ella: I haven't gotten to using the MS-1 with an external sequencer quite yet. That start/stop edit point trick looks like a cool trick and could be useful.

I either use the MS by itself or along with my 303 or 224. I used to use the MS strictly for layering vocal samples and cut ups but I saw some videos of it in use, heard some music produced on it, and now I am trying to make bangers with it. It's not that hard to work with. The mute groups need some working around but it's nothing I can't digest.

As mentioned on the MS-1 thread, Eliot Lipp's debut album was produced solely on the MS-1 and Ill Green's brilliant lo-fi masterpiece, the Swamp Water Plague EP, was put together on the MS.

Tricky also used the MS-1 on Maxinquaye.. Another awesome album.. Hopefully, with all the stuff I posted someone will buy an MS!!!!

ILL Green EP is one of my favourite!! i also played one track of it in an italian radio last month...
anyway the start/end point trick i showed you, i used in the last track i posted on "your music" section (and on the st forums too) in the middle of december...the title is "after you're gone, you're gone"...my remix16 is coming out from the catacomb...

I didn't know about tricky using the ms1, I often read he was quite a mad guy that was not able to run any kind of instruments (samplers included..).
In the old tricky material sampling was done on a S1000 sequenced with logic.

the loop trick is really funky, ellaguru, I used it with my old S900 back in the days.
